From Luigi1000:
Can somone tell me the joke, I dont underststand, that and I will never leave.

I'll tell you the joke. As user Must said, Hotel California is a song. It was performed in (I think) 1978 by the Eagles. Towards the end of the song, then-lead singer Don Henley notes that in the Hotel CA, "you can check out any time you like...but you can't EVER leave!"

That's what Boom.DK (Kieran???) is referring to in his post.

As for my opinion on the issue... Deleting accounts = DO NOT WANT. There's just way too much abuse potential hidden in there.

From Kyoseron:
However, the grammar in the box needs to be corrected - the one that says "Please leave of this abandoned house" should say "Please leave from this abandoned house."

Actually, I believe the proper expression is simply, "Please leave this abandoned house." Your correction was even MOAR incorrect! =P

The hack itself looks pretty good from what I can see. :)

You don't have to, MarioEdit.

As far as I can tell, all the user has to do to remedy his problem is any or all of these things:
  • Get off "Vertical Scroll at Will" and get ON "No Vertical Scroll"
  • Move his "Layer 2 Sink Short" command back a screen (see my advice on Layer 2 levels for more info; the info assumes you put the command on screen 0)
  • Use "H-Scroll: Constant; V-Scroll: None"

That should fix it! ^^

EDIT: ...Unless the level HAS to scroll vertically; in that case, it's beyond my realm of experience what's going on. ^^;

Plain simplicity.

I'm Alex.

The "99" refers to 1999, the year I began drawing.

And the hyphens are there because when I first registered this name on DeviantArt back in July 2006, "Alex1006" (my IGN name) and "Alex99" were both supposedly taken. D:

WTF is wrong with the block.. I seriously need help.

Sprite memory, that's what!

The Boss Boo is sprite #0xC5. And if you click on Lakitu's head and then open the dropdown list, you'll find that at index #0x9, it says, "SP: C5, FF". So, select that, click OK, and your blue block (I'm assuming that's what you're holding) should show up in that Boss Boo's presence!

If that still doesn't fix the problem...well, I'm sorry, but there's nothing more I can do. :'(

Super Mario World_00005.png

See that Midway Gate? I think it's pretty obvious what I want...a Midway Gate that works in water! xD

EDIT: Never mind. I figured out another way to fix the problem. I just simply removed the water, creating a sort of "air pocket".

Thanks anyway, Dinomar! ^^

When you finish the cave part, you go to this area, where the goal sphere is. Please comment about the pallete; It was supposed to be a night area.

That's a great start with the background, but you also need to change the clouds, the foreground, and the sprite colors to match. If this is a night area, EVERYTHING is supposed to be darker.

image19.png
A Sky area of the Calm Sea; You'll see here Clapin' Chucks and Koopas.

Where's the foreground!?! D:

Perhaps maybe it's just me, but those cloud platforms blend in too much with the background. The default clouds (accessible by switching to the Cloud/Forest tileset) at least had some fringes you could put on them in the tileset specific objects! ^^;

It's time. After lurking around this site for a very long time, I've finally decided to release my latest hack.

It's currently untitled. In the end, it will have some custom blocks, sprites, and ExGFX...but for now, it's a level-only hack. See, what I'm doing is starting off with strictly level edits, and then introducing the custom stuff gradually, little by little. This benefits me more than it may benefit you, 'cuz I'm a complete moron at this custom stuff! ^^; ^^; ^^;

And now, the obligatory screenshots, yay. (happy dance)

Miscellaneous Schtuffs
c5.png
Here's the level intro.

0.png
And here's one of the bonus levels. This is level 0's bonus game. I hacked Level 0x100 as well, but I'm not showing that to you until I can get at the level in my hack! ^^;

World 1: Mushroom Mountain
Obviously, this world takes place on a mountain somewhere. There are lots of slopes in the levels, and you even go through an abandoned mine.

world1.png
Here's what the first world looks like. ^^

13b.png
Yoshi's house. He's really got the Goth theme going on, doesn't he? xD

1.png
The first level. As you can see, there's a glitch I need fixed. This is what happened when I tried to make a slanted pipe that faced the other way using only Map16. Some sections of the pipe act like invisible blocks while others act like water tiles, and there are even a few tiles that act like lava! D'OH!!! x(

d8.png
Bonus area. You can thank YY-CHR and some clever Map16 hacking for the Monty Mole holes. :D

2.png
Yellow Switch Palace. Your first obstacle is a really high ledge. Now how are you gonna get up there? ;)

cb.png
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

3.png
Lots of Spike Tops and Blarggs await you in this above-ground mine level.

4.png
I tried as hard as I could, but I could not get the second pipe off to the right pictured. :( In this level, you're in an abandoned mine, and you get to pick your path. The orange pipe pictured takes you to an unstable, collapsing mine, while the green pipe not pictured takes you to a toxic mine. Pick your poison. x)

f9.png
Nuuuuuuuuuu! It's teh collapsing ceiling! D:

c4.png
ZOMG A SECRET EXIT! :O This one is pretty heavily guarded, though; there are many Rip van Fishes and a Whistling Chuck to wake 'em all up! Fortunately, a Star is provided for you before you reach this area.

eb.png
Watch out for these crushers!

fe.png
Here's the toxic mine. You can thank YY-CHR for that little gas bubble. It acts just like an Eerie.

fa.png
The toxic mine has a tight time limit, so to give you a chance to rest, here's a rest stop with unlimited time.

de.png
MOAR crushers. A tight time limit and some normal-sized gas bubbles help to increase the pressure! >:D

5.png
OH SHI...

...yeah. Needless to say, vertical levels will be very rare in my hack. Is there a way to fix that garbage background? >x(

f4.png
Some vertical Layer 2-age. What could that springboard possibly be used for?

6.png
The obligatory "athletic" level. Note the scale platforms.

c3.png
AAAAAAAAAA!!! BULLETS!!!

d2.png
Here's another underground mine with a rope area and a bunch of digging Charging Chucks. The line guide is red merely so I could see it better; it may not be red in the final version.

7.png
The first castle. If you thought sloped platforms were hard, you will most likely have problems with sloped conveyor belts that work against you!

e8.png
Don't those two coins look suspicious to you? I bet if I pushed that P-Switch...

e6.png
YUSH!!! A secret room full of 1-Ups! :D :D :D :D :D

e7.png
The boss of this castle dun like visitors very much. D:

e5.png
Here he is, taunting you just before you enter his lair. By the way, I currently do not have plans for custom bosses. Sorry. D:

8.png
A secret level. Ho snap...looks like I accidentally came in on the dolphins' annual upstream river race! xD

c9.png
Oh noes! That Whistling Chuck just ratted me out! What am I gonna do!?! D:

And that's all for now. World 2's screenies are coming soon, but until then, enjoy! ^^

You forgot one thing, WhiteYoshiEgg.

Of course, this one's pretty obvious, anyway, but just for the sake of completeness: To actually edit Layer 2, click on the gold bar icon sandwiched in between the land icon and the Koopa Shell icon.

St. Clair Publications: Where good girls just want to have fun this Christmas!

Other places you can find me: LiveJournal | Last.FM

Which sprite buoyancy option do you have enabled?

I've found that the "Enable buoyancy, but disable all interaction with Layer 2" option is a lot better for normal levels.

Of course, if you have a Layer 2 level, and you want sprites on your Layer 2 objects, you wouldn't have much of a choice, then. But, obviously, you don't, because you said you have tides, which can't be used with Layer 2 levels. So...okay then. xD

St. Clair Publications: Where good girls just want to have fun this Christmas!

Other places you can find me: LiveJournal | Last.FM

I've hit a rut in my hack development.

I'm making a mine level with a lot of elevators. On line guides. And it's underground. So, it was necessary for me to put the level in the Rope 2 tileset to get the proper background.

The problem is, the line guide ends (extended objects 0x55 and 0x56), which were necessary for some of the level gimmicks, are glitched in that tileset. So, to fix the problem, I clicked on the brick icon in Lunar Magic to edit the extended animation frames, and, after lots of back-and-forth scrolling between the level and a level on the Rope 3 tileset, I was able to re-create the line guide ends as well as the conveyor belt ropes.

Here's the problem, though: While everything looks fine in Lunar Magic, in the actual game, the animation alternates very rapidly between the original glitched graphics and my fixes.

The evidence:
Level0FA.png
The level in Lunar Magic.

fa.png
The level in ZSNES. Notice that there are pink and purple stars where a line guide end should be and was in Lunar Magic.

What's going on and how do I fix this???

St. Clair Publications: Where good girls just want to have fun this Christmas!

Other places you can find me: LiveJournal | Last.FM

I had considered that...using the background with Rope 1 or Rope 3. But I felt that overwriting the glitched sparkles would be even MOAR work. ;_;

There never is a perfect fix for anything, is there? xD

File > Palettes > Import Level Palette from File. Then look for your palette file and click Open.

Note that using this option will automatically tick the "Enable Custom Palette" option if you haven't done so. If you wanted those palettes to be shared across the whole hack as opposed to just one level, you'll have to do a bit more work. =P
