Never mind, people. I figured it out on my own.

It's indeed the situation that Ramon described. The slope ceiling in question was laid down on a screen boundary, and the part of the slope on screen 0x7 was the part that was cut off. What I ended up doing was taking the slope object and splitting it into two, putting one slope on screen 0x6 and the other on screen 0x7, and using dirt to fill in the gaps. And it worked! ^^

Considering all the other slopes under object 0x12 can span two screens, I find it really strange that that one broke up. D:

Oh well. Another mystery solved. xD

In no particular order...
  1. A Wacom.
  2. New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart Wii, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
  3. She's So Unusual, Cyndi Lauper's first CD.

Wow, not much this year. Yay for fiscal conservatism and minimalism! ^^

ZOMG someone quoted one of my posts! :D I feel so special now. xD

But seriously...yeah, what I said back then pretty much tells you what you need to know about Layer 2.

As for autoscrolling...here's the short list:
  • Autoscroll Special 1 was used in Donut Plains 2. And, as far as I can tell, it's the only way to use autoscroll with a Layer 2 level.
  • Autoscroll Special 1A was used in the Yoshi's Wings level at Level C8.
  • Autoscroll Special 4 was used in Butter Bridge 1.

The other options weren't used, so you're on your own there. D: I did make a test level in my hack to see what the other options did out of curiosity, though, and here's what I got:
  • Autoscroll Special 2: Hugged the contours of my level in a way by scrolling up and down wherever there were slopes, but stopped at screen 0x7.
  • Autoscroll Special 2A: Scrolls up and down continuously, almost like a SMB3 Doomship level. I tried to find the limits, but because most of my level is on the ground and not in the air, I had to eat a blue shell with Yoshi. I got as far as the Midway Gate (which was at screen 0x9), and then Yoshi swallowed the shell and I died. D:
  • Autoscroll Special 3: Seemingly similar to Special 2. Scrolled up gradually, then scrolled back down halfway. Stopped at screen 0x7.

All Autoscroll Special variants require you click the Mario head and set Layer 1 to "No Vertical or Horizontal Scroll". Also, Autoscroll Special 1, 1A, and 3 require you click the swimming fish and set Layer 2 to "H-Scroll: None; V-Scroll: None". IMO, these commands are a bitch to hack for, so you're better off just using sprite F3.

Yeah.

After that Nightfall bullshit, I pretty much quit ROM hacking in a fit of rage. But in May 2008, somehow I got the urge to hack again. I typed in "nfall.org" only to find that the domain name was up for sale. Then I went on YouTube to find some SMW1 ROM hacking videos, went to FuSoYa's site to find Lunar Magic, went to the Links section, clicked on "Super Mario World Central"...and was surprised to learn that this site came back! Not only that, but my profile was exactly as I left it, sans layout (the CSS was removed).

So I made a new layout and restarted my life here. And the rest is history. ^^

Don't forget SMW: Return to Dinosaur Land. It's, IMO, the best damn vanilla hack out there. All aspiring new hackers could learn a thing or two from it.

LOL, didn't the OP start this thread because he didn't want to be overwhelmed? I think we're overwhelming him! xD

Simple. You go to level C5 in Lunar Magic and edit it like you would any other level. Make sure you keep the "Display Level Message 1" sprite, though, or you'll be permanently stuck there.

Note that if you ever hit Shift+F8 and click OK (which you have to do if you want to use "Display Level Message 1" on other levels without glitching the hack) and you have Mario starting on a submap (look for the Mario icon in the Overworld Editor), you'll have to edit level 1C5 instead.

Level C7 looks fine in Lunar Magic...

glitchytitlescreen2.png
...but not in the actual game.

Why? And how do I fix this?

That was in the help file!?! I can't believe I missed that! ^^;

EDIT: And it works, too. Thanks, WhiteYoshiEgg (and FuSoYa)! ^^

EDIT 2: IMO, an even simpler fix is to just load the title screen in the Overworld Editor and edit those palettes.

Assuming you have AddMusic RevX or a similar program, just simply put the music into the "MISC" folder. Then, in the .INI file, where it says "0B=", replace the file name that's there with the name of your music file. After that, just go through the insertion process as normal.

Captain Falcon
...Am I the only one who uses Internet Explorer and likes it?

Katy Perry (not really, but it sounds like it could come from her, anyway. D:)
I used IE and I liked it...
The taste of her cherry Chap-Stick...
I used IE just to try it...
I hope Mozilla won't mind it...

It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight.

I used IE and I liked it... ... ...I liked it!

xD

Seriously, though...I <3 Firefox. Firefox is easy to use, has a simple interface, and can be re-skinned and extended like crazy! Right now I'm using NoScript and Stylish. The latter is how I came up with my post layout! I've also used Web Developer and Firebug, as well as a Mario skin, in the past. Fun stuff. ^^

I changed my name back from "Lady St. Gaga" for THIS!?! =P When that Nightfall bullshit started showing up on the front page, I started to get a little concerned. I liked the Flash cartoon, though. I wonder what'll happen when S.N.N. goes OVER 9,000!!! or Boom.DK or Smallhacker hits a milestone.

Blah. I dun really like the new layout. The colors are hard on my eyes. D: Oh well. That's why this site has a bunch of other layouts, and why Firefox has Stylish. ^^

Nomad_Mu
So did I mess anything up by putting them on page 2?

Technically, no. Page 0x2 is a "tileset-specific" page. So, if you were in the Normal 1 tileset when you made your Map16, then the blocks you added would show up as "default" blocks in every other tileset.

They're all good, IMO. Except spring. I fucking hate spring because it's all pollen-y and buggy and volatile and severe stormy and tornado-y and yuck and I hate it! (pout pout pout)

Glossing all that over, though, the springtime is typically when I get my best cartoon ideas. Summer is when I take a break from cartooning. Fall has all the pretty leaves. And Halloween, one of my favorite holidays. And the wintertime has snow! ^^ And Christmas, and Valentine's Day, my other two favorites. Also, technically, St. Patrick's Day is in the wintertime. But I only tolerate that holiday. xD

The hyperlink's broken.

It redirects to a tutorial explaining what an HTTP 403 error is, and I think it's vaguely trying to hint at the fact that I'm getting an HTTP 403 accessing your ExExGFX patch thingy.

That sucks, because this patch sounds like something I want to use! ><

You don't want your patch in this site's Patches section, but would you mind at least putting it in the File Bin? ;_;

If you want to get technical, the first animé I ever watched... I don't remember the title of it, but it came on Nick Jr. following Eureeka's Castle, I think, and it featured animé-style retellings of many classic fairy tales, like Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel. I was 3 at the time. That was in 1991.

The first animé I "officially" watched was Sailor Moon, but I only watched a few episodes.

And the first animé I watched and got into was the Pokémon series. But, due to the fact that I don't have satellite or cable in my house, I couldn't watch past episode "The March of the Exeggutor Squad" because I couldn't get The WB at the time. And, using VHS tapes from Viz Video, Pioneer, and Warner Bros., I could only catch myself up to the next-to-last episode of Season 1: "Friends to the End". >_< Oh well. At least it insipired me to get a Blue Version and get into the games! =P

(facepalm) First Henry Louis Gates Jr., and now this.

See, this is why people refer to the police as "the pigs".

That first Urban Dictionary definition describes the police perfectly in this case: "A filthy police officer who thinks that they are above the law and whatever they say goes. Well, fuck 'em."

MJ sucked major ass when he came and played for the wizards...

You're forgetting that he retired once before that, played baseball, and then came back to the Chicago Bulls.

Nice to see that I'm not the ONLY one who's just a bit annoyed about Brett Favre. I've NEVER seen anyone this indecisive!!! Damn it, Brett; make up your mind already!!!

Same-Day UPDATE: I just hit Level 4 and I'm now a yellow unshelled Koopa! Yay! ^^
