You wanna know what's even worse than this shit?

Do a search on YouTube for "BBW" or Dove's "campaign for real beauty" (this is from the same Unilever company that gives us Axe, a deodorant that's effectively Dove's antithesis). Or search for the "fat acceptance movement" on The Wiki or Encyclopedia Dramatica.

As you'll most likely see once you do those searches, there are more people out there who want to be like this woman.

All this in response to a perceived obsession with thinness that society has.

That I call extreme bullshit on, since ever since Ally McBeal ended and Calista Flockhart left the public eye, I've seen very few Hollywood celebrities or fashion models that are "fake" or "ultra-thin". The few that ARE like that are extremely obvious (Paris Hilton, anyone?). And, in my life, I've only ever seen one person get anorexic. One. ONE FUCKING PERSON. Who honestly WAS fat beforehand, anyway.

Plus, Calista Flockhart denied ever having eating disorders 'n' shit to begin with.

Who wants to bet $10 that the REAL reason that this bitch wants to balloon herself to 1,000 pounds is to effect some kind of backlash on mainstream society? Believe it or not, sometimes mainstream society actually knows what it's talking about...! |-O

Looks like Verdana is allowed, so I'm good.

You do realize that this whole site is coded in Verdana, right? Same-Day UPDATE: No it's not, either! It's coded in Tahoma. I can't believe I messed that up, but it is pretty easy to get those two confused!

Also, I really don't see the need for monospace fonts to be disallowed, but that may just be me...

I don't know what the problem is, either. I NEVER had any trouble reading posts with monospaced text. Then again, I have a tolerance for palettes that make the hack mods go, "AAAAA, MY EYES!!!"

Quite frequently, when a hack mod says that someone has "eye-searing palettes" somewhere, I think that the palettes aren't all that bad. And that's precisely the problem. The admins here seem to think that everyone's tolerances are the same as theirs and that their layout/hack/ExGFX/whatever rules are absolute, when the reality is that everything is relative and different people see the same thing different ways.

I was going to bitch about Calibri not being on the list, but my layout appears to have survived unscathed, so I guess I'm in good shape. #w{=P}

Just to be on the safe side, I'm gonna ask anyway: is Calibri allowed?

  1. numerous shitty unfinished hacks
  2. Bowser's Grudge:
    Started in the fall of 2008. Uploaded to the site in the fall of 2009. Was rejected. Cancelled it due to butthurt.
  3. Life in FCHS: The Video Game:
    Started in January 2010. In progress.

While the demo of BG was waiting to be moderated, I worked on several levels that I'm quite proud of and would want to use in another hack. All of them were in World 5, dubbed the "Temporal Cave". That world was themed around time travel.

One level was a Ghost House that sent you to a completely black room with the message "This level has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. Contact St. Clair Publications for more information." Just like the end of the Sunken Ghost Ship in the original game, you fell and fell and fell and fell and fell (across all 0x1B screens of the vertical level, to be exact), and then when you hit the bottom, you got teleported to level C7. You then had to replay the demo; you'd get teleported to level C5 at the end. After going through C5 and reading the message box, you'd go back to level 1!

Another level opened on the Underground 3 tileset and a dark blue version of Broozer's desert dunes with this message:
Toad: Do you like Twilight?
Boo: No.
Toad: ZOMGWTF HOW DARE YOU STEPHENIE MEYER IS THE GREATEST EVER AND YOU HAVE NO LIFE!!!

You entered the pipe and got transported to a "post-apocalypse" area, where it was heavily implied that the Toad dropped a nuclear bomb. This area was set to "BG Palette 6" and, for the background, a custom palette was made based on Palette 1. It also contained bright green lava, and all enemies on palettes A through E had colors 6 and 7 swapped from red to green to give the appearance of nuclear radiation. Obviously, the whole level was intended to parody the so-called "Twitards", and that won't be the only time Twilight shows up in my hacks! |-O

Yet another level was dubbed "The Life Cycle of a Super Mario World Central User". It started off with a Kaizo level with Floating Munchers™, then went to a Blatant 105 Edit™. Then it went to what I call a "less blatant 105 edit", where the level still has Level 105's music, graphics, and background, but it's obvious that the "hacker" pushed Ctrl+Delete. Then it went to a "pure vanilla level" and ended on a level that had ExGFX and custom music.

And finally, the castle had Layer 3 Smash with medium auto-scroll, something I don't believe I've ever seen anyone else here do.

(sigh) Okay, enough nostalgia. Back to work! #w{<3}

If you applied your patch via XKAS, then, assuming the patch required you to set free space, just simply open the .ASM file, look for the address you set, use Lunar Address to convert from SNES addresses to PC addresses, jump to that address in a hex editor, and overwrite everything you see with "00". That should undo the patch.

Here it comes! From the Bob Barker Studio at CBS in Hollywood, it's The Price is Right!!!

^^^^^wat.

Unfortunately, this time around I don't have much to show you, as I cancelled Bowser's Grudge after the hack mods rejected my demo. I don't take rejection very well. Especially when I worked so bloody hard on the hack and had to redo it at least once due to ROM corruption!!!

So...uh, yeah.

I've started on a new hack, but right now, I've only completed the first level of World 1. There's really nothing for you to play, so I haven't made a .IPS file available.

In the meantime, take this consolation prize: some overworld ExGFX straight from the hack itself that I made myself!

stoneexgfxsample.png

Enjoy. I'll be submitting this to the site's ExGFX section later.

Now stay tuned for Let's Make a Deal, coming up next over most of these CBS stations!

Lemonade
1. Blaster was build by 3 Koopas.
2. These Koopas were trapped in a cave with misc. things, including a bob-omb, a chainsaw and... you guessed it.

They built that blaster IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!

Sorry. Couldn't resist. xD

Anyway, this sounds like a good hack. I'll be waiting for the demo! #w{=)}

Same-Day UPDATE: I just leveled up to "Shelless Blue Koopa" rank! Now I can kick empty shells! w00t!!111!!!1

Hey, I never said I was an expert on ExGFX! :P

Though I am curious as to what you mean by "the perspective is off". What SHOULD it look like?

By the way, those are supposed to be buildings of a high school on pavement.

Then don't hack, You gotta take criticism.

That was incredibly harsh.

If you reviewed this thread, and my last C3 thread, you'd know that I can take criticism. It's REJECTION I don't take very well. Those aren't necessarily the same thing.

Plus, this site's hack mods have sometimes rejected hacks for really pedantic reasons, anyway. |-O

...LOL WUT?

Wow. I leave this site for eight hours (to get some sleep) and I miss all this drama?

I guess I should be glad I have Firefox, with NoScript. Blocking <iframe>s. Oh, and I should also be glad I have Stylish invoking the {display: none;} declaration on those same <iframe>s. No Hannah Montana bullshit for me! #w{>=)}

If you guys fucking hate those Hannah Montana ads so much, why not just do the same thing? It's a whole lot easier.

Oh, and...
Blumiere
Stop ruining one of the best games in existence. |B|

How does it ruin the game?

It didn't cause the developer to pull the game. It's not causing the developer to lose money (even though the game is free D: ) or fans, and it's not disparaging or attacking its developer, nor is it causing any other harm.

So, you really need to retract your extreme opinion.

Thanks to the game show fandom constantly taking shits on Fremantle Media, I cannot take seriously anyone who says that something ruins a franchise. "RuinedFOREVER" is like the fanb01 version of Godwin's Law, and I'd really like to call a moratorium on it.

Thank you. |-O

And no, I'm not a Hannah Montana fan, either, so you can refrain from making those kinds of ad hominem attacks. |-O</iframe></iframe>

I left a review on A Super Mario Thing that linked to my LiveJournal where the REAL review was. A mere 90 minutes later, I log in and find this:
GoldenSonic15
If you've played Kaizos easier then this... You must play some pretty bad Kaizos, honestly. I have an urge to find out where this A-l-e-x-99 guy is and kick him to the moon, and that's NOT for saying Raocow sucks.

Level Design-8/10 Fun, fun, fun. Well, for the most part. There are some levels, like Use Your Illusion, that are fricking difficult, and somebody's a bit obsessed with Vip4. There are a few levels... That were heavily inspired by that hack, and that's not a good thing. The levels they were based off of were some of my least favorites of that game.

Custom Graphics-7/10 I don't like Mario graphics, but at least I can stand the Demo graphics...

Custom Music-10/10 Great music choices, I love the custom OW songs, and FINAL COUNTDOWN IN USE YOUR ILLUSION DSHGPSDIJFWPEJPODIDHJSGIOHPDSFIPHAHP!!!

Custom Stuff-9/10 The custom stuff is cool and all, but did you guys get some of the bosses mixed up? Seriously, certain bosses would have been better in later worlds. But I love the upgrade on the Thwomp boss and the Muncher boss was just freaking awesome.

Overworld-9/10 Nice, I like your use of decorations, but... I would've liked it if the paths were a bit more visible.

Overall-9/10 This hack is WAAAAAY better then a certain hack a certain somebody made and whined his ass off when it got removed, so... Just shut the hell up. If you don't like something, then you don't have to whine your ass off about it.

Why did GoldenSonic15 feel the need to make such an incredibly vitriolic review like this one just because I didn't like a hack? I don't understand... :(

Given the (mostly) sane threads on this website about Barack Obama, his healthcare plan, Twilight, and 2012, I thought this site was better than that. |-O

I have an even better fix for your background problems: Lunar Magic 1.7 or higher!

Save your ROM in that program. It'll give you an extra five rows of background space that will overwrite the garbage.

Of course, then you'll have to put up with cutoff since Lunar Magic uses blank space for those five rows.

St. Clair Publications: Where good girls just want to have fun this Christmas!

Other places you can find me: LiveJournal | Last.FM

If I may be even MORE specific:
  • Level mode 1E creates a regular level with translucent objects on Layer 1.
  • Level mode 1F makes a horizontal Layer 2 level where Mario can interact with the layer; objects on Layer 2 are translucent only where they intersect with Layer 1.

Be extremely careful when using these settings. If you color anything black in the palette editor, then whatever portion of an object that was using that color will disappear (leading to possible cutoff). Message boxes will always have blank messages, and entering pipes will cause you to get shoved behind the background for whatever reason.

I don't think there are any other versions of N-SPC. Assuming you got your custom music from this website's custom music section, you might want to check just to make sure, though.

I think what you need to do is start with a clean ROM, get it to 1 megabyte somehow, and then insert the patch. If that's what you already did, then I don't really know what else to tell you. #w{=(}

I once had problems similar to yours (mine were compounded by the fact that the song I wanted to insert also needed custom samples), and I personally believe that using N-SPC is more trouble than it's worth. |-O

By the way, a friendly reminder to all of you who are saying not to use page 2 of the Map16 editor:

If you're using Lunar Magic 1.7 or higher, you can hit Ctrl+F1 and click OK, and the tileset specific thingy will be disabled on your next Map16 save!

You will have to redo OW palettes.

I CALL BULLSHIT.

If you go to File > Palettes > Extract Shared Palettes from ROM, it's possible to save your overworld palettes. Strangely enough, they use the same .PAL extension that Lunar Magic uses for your custom palettes in YY-CHR format.

Make sure to delete your backup when you're done or keep it up to date, because if you try to restore from it later, it will inadvertently overwrite colors that you may have changed. Something I learned the hard way! #w{x(}

I'd like to point out that that tutorial is useless if you're using Lunar Magic 1.7 and above, as they completely changed the ExAnimation process.

Unfortunately, this piece of Engrish bullshit made by a now-permabanned user is the closest thing to an updated tutorial that I could find.

Oh, and by the way:
enjoirider
What should i put for the animation type?

On/Off Switch, obviously (since you said you wanted On/Off-activated blocks)
For the frames, do they go by 8x8 tile number or the 16x16 tile number?

8×8. In the 8×8 editor, you need to push Ctrl+Shift+Page Down in order to see the animation tiles.
What are you supposed to put in for destination? I thought it might have been screen number but thats not it.

A hex number that corresponds to an 8×8 tile. That's any hex number from 0-3FF (before LM 1.7) or 0-4FF (after 1.7). Just be careful that you don't overwrite any existing ExAnimations without first disabling them (if you use LM 1.7 or higher). Also, since you're using a foreground object, make sure the destination is 0-7F (FG1), 80-8F (FG2), or 180-18F (FG3).
