Hey gang! #smrpg{y}

Hope you all had a great year. This C3 I wanted to show off my very first hack which I've very slowly been working on over the last 6 months or so.
Lunar magic has been a bit of a learning curve, but I've loved getting my creative juices flowing in new and interesting ways. Prior - I've got a little background in pixel art so I've spent most of my time hopefully making this hack look cool and pretty, that's the plan anyway.

Before we begin, i want to share why i started this hack and what it means to me: This all began because I want to give back to this amazing community in my own little way. I've had many, many hours of fun from all the amazing creations and am ever so grateful for all the friends I've made along the way. This is my little thanks to you all. #w{<3}

Now, onto the hack -

The hack is unnamed and still a massive work in progress - but I'm aiming for this to be approachable for all kaizo skill levels - somewhere between kaizo beginner/intermediate. If experts beat in minutes or first try, that's completely cool with me, as long as they've had fun. It's mostly super vanilla with no funky chocolate, but with some mashups and edits on vanilla graphics/palettes. I've tried to make sure nothings overly tight - But it's very platform heavy and coming up with super creative setups is always a struggle, but the main goal here is a chill, fun time.

I've only created 4/5 levels so far, which are all WIP (i'm forever tweaking) but I'm aiming to release with around 12 exits. Short and sweet y'kno.

It's still super early days - But take a little look at what I've got so far, and I'm fully open to feedback, advice, or words of encouragement. On eventual release, even if one person plays and gets a teeny tiny bit of enjoyment, then I'll be super chuffed.

Excuse the horrible gif compression.

Take care, much love, smell ya later and thanks for reading.

Visuals look fantastic, such nice palettes and tilesets.

I'll also say - as someone who currently has the name 'Super hack name not yet decided world' on my title screen and have half jokely said I might keep it, Im totally feeling this title.
Is this the same baserom you were working on previously? (Or an advancement of?) Just wondering as I remember you working on one on stream.

Regardless, great job and I'm sure all the new additions will be very much appreciated by many!
Thank you for all the kind words guys - really does mean a lot and makes me want to push this even further #wario{<3}
Love, love, love, love the aesthetics and visuals.
Looks absolutely painfully brutal but can't wait to get my hands on it.

Great work <3
Woah, indeed an honor to be in the Honorary Mentions #w{<3}

Good job everyone and big congrats to all those across the other categories.

Track Name
Lost Odyssey OST - Neverending Journey

Audio Reference

Note Data Reference
Had a little look around for a midi/tracker cover or file and couldn't find one after a quick search.

This song is from the Square Enix RPG game Lost Odyssey and is used as the main map theme, and boy do I think it would make a beautiful little overworld theme. I would whack this in my hack so damn quick.

Even just the first little loop before the guitar kicks in would be fab as that'll most likely be the hardest part.

Thanks! <3
Heyooo!

It's been a long journey. Been working on my first ever hack for around 10 months and I've learned so much, but still know so little - but to say it's been an absolute pleasure is an understatement, and by far the coolest project i've ever taken on.

I showed off a couple exits last C3, so plenty has changed since then. We also, have a name...

Introducing *Drumroll please*:

Gambol

Which means to run or jump about playfully.

Aiming for low/mid intermediate so hopefully not too hard, not too easy but just solid platforming fun. 98% of the hack so far is vanilla and plan to keep it that way, apart from palette overhaul and vanilla graphic edits.

I'm planning to make around 12 exits - and we are super close, I need to finish off the second half of a couple of exits and then potentially make one more than some overworld, music, and loose ends to finish up.

After that, the plan is to get it over to the hands of some testers, and release it... this year. It's all this work in progress so anything could change at this point, but i just hope i can give back to this amazing community in my own little way. Keep ya eyes peeled.

Bouncy fun

Beach level

A dino forest

Sneak peek at the one screen level

Switch Palace

https://imgbb.com/
a salt mine?

Ghost house revoling around p-switch timers

A wooden fortress?

An entrance to a castle?

Anyway, there's a little peek, don't want to show off everything as want some setups and sections to be a little surprise for some. Hopefully, some of you look forward to playing.

Take care, peace out and happy C3 #smrpg{y}
Thanks guys #w{<3} Wanted to show off so much more in the clips but well, you'll have to play it to see the rest ;)
Some of these setups look fantastic! Your use of different tiles and colours is super unique and certainly stands out.
My only feedback is some areas do seem quite busy, more so on the level around 2 minutes as the foreground/background are quite similar colours. Good job though and look forward to playing on release!
Thanks for all the kind words guys - theres been so many high quality hacks by some amazing creators out there in recent years who have become a huge inspiration.

We're hopefully in the final strech now - i often post updates and will even annouce it's eventual release over at twitter so feel free to hunt me out there if your intrested #smw{:TUP:}

Heyooo!

I'm Jez and working on my first ever hack so thought i'd post a little thread of some of the stuff i've got so far. I showed off a couple exits and posted these gifs for the past two C3s, thought it would be nice to post my screenshots here and update with progress.

Gambol

The title means 'to run or jump about playfully'... and that's the plan, hopefully a fun hack that is a good challenge for newer players, but still satisfying for the advanced.

I'm planning to make around 12 exits - and we are super close, I'm currently working through the final leve.. then i've got a couple half levels to polish off - and maybe another level depending on how it all feels - started some of the overworld - but several levels need music, and loose ends to finish up.

After that, the plan is to get it over to the hands of some testers, and release it... this year. It's all this work in progress so anything could change at this point, but i just hope i can give back to this amazing community in my own little way. Keep ya eyes peeled.

I'm fully open to any feedback or advice from the gifs you see below and would be very much appreciated.

Overworld is completely new to me and this is what i've knocked up so far - plenty more to go...

I'm not a big kaizo player but I have to say your palette choices are very nice, everything is very visually appealing and very clear on what's FG vs BG. I also like the subtle tiny coin that's helping direct the player where they need to go.

One suggestion I do have for the OW though is the small waterfall having the upper portion end up in a small pool and not directly on top of the lower waterfall.
Here's a small mockup to better explain what I mean.

On a side note if you need a thread moved in the future feel free to reach out to any Forum Moderators that way you won't lose any replies that may exist.

Thanks means a lot! It's very easy to get carried away with palettes - espeically when trying to keep things from being too busy.

Ah yeah.. Good spot, I've been meaning to revisit that section but your mock up is super helpful.

Thanks for heads up! Didn't have any replies but will do so in the future!
Another little section done for the castle gauntlet.

Still plenty of tweaks to be had - especially with the colour palette, need to make the foreground/kaizo block stand out more.
