I'm fairly new to this but slowly getting the hang of it, so this might be a dumb question.. But when I started making my own player graphics, I copied GFX32, made the copy an ExGFX file & started drawing over it. after trying to insert it, it messed up FG & BG tiles. I have a feeling I have to just replace GFX32 with my new ExGFX file & name it back, but I'm just not sure. Anyone know?

Ahh ok I had a feeling but I just needed a little reassurance. Thanks a million & also thanks for the heads up on the patches :)

I downloaded a block pack that came with an ExGFX file (super bounce block, more specifically, the transparent note block) it came as ExGFX999. I tried inserting it as it came.. No luck.. Also tried renaming the file to ExGFX80 , ExGFXB0 , ExGFXFFF ..still no sight of the file in Super GFX Bypass after I insert. My question is, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks m8 that definitely did it, but now it messed up my pipe tiles after loading it into FG1 tiles slot. I think I need exactly what you mentioned XD

Was just looking for the block the kills mario but lets sprites pass through it. I know I've seen it around (usually looks like a glowing net) but I couldn't find it in the block section.

oh ok that makes sense, with the mario solid block.. I'll check out both thought, thanks guys!

Was wondering if anybody here has used the 'sprite offsetter' sprite, & actually knew how to use it? I did successfully insert it, but I cant seem to offset anything.

You must fill the "Extension" field with the extra byte setup when inserting it (you can also modify them after the sprite is placed in the level by Alt+right clicking the sprite). The .asm file as well as the blue text that shows up when the sprite is hovered explain how the extra bytes work.

Thanks alot, alt right clicking the sprite made the extension notes make sense lol

So I've been trying to change where a custom sprite grabs its graphics from. I downloaded the multi bounce shell, & I put the number graphics in a copy of GFX05 & replaced the flying rock platform

I found the platform in the ROM map $01B38C & I know which values to change within the shells ASM file. I just don't know how to put this knowledge to use, or if I'm even looking in the right places.. Any help would be appreciated!

I am aware of that, but I'm trying to get it working with a sprite set I'm currently working with. I can see in the shells asm file, which db it grabs the number graphics from, I just don't know what to switch it to. Ill try to detail my situation

Number originally in GFX20 pattern 33-37 (in hex)
Moved them to GFX13 pattern 15-19

I realise now that this is a coding question disguised as a graphics question & I apologise for that!

If kind of sounds like a bit of both tbh so if you could explain it better that'd be great.

I actually figured it out after giving it a couple days.. Stupid me was looking in all the wrong places & asking the wrong questions|-O

I thought I had to look at the rom map to figure out the sprites tile location. But all I had to do was press #lm{8x} in LM, look for the sprites section & change the values in the asm file accordingly. I also figured out how to change weather it grabs from SP3 or SP4, which is in the cfg file. I was making it alot harder than it is.

Although I assume I was confused with the rom map because that's how you edit original sprites? I clearly haven't gotten that far yet #tb{XD}

Posting here because I'm curious if theres a way to spawn a powerup only after respawning at the midway?

Feel I should mention I have the retry patch inserted

You can place a powerup block under the midway object (so they overlap with the midway taking precedence). This way after getting the midway, the bar won't spawn but instead the block under it will.

Sweet thanks! Ill have to change the entrance slightly but that works!

I was trying to change the falling speed of a single jumping piranha (& possibly jump height.) I downloaded the disassembly & noticed in the ASM file, it notes jumping speed, but I couldn't find anything on falling speed. I was hoping someone could help me narrow down which values I have to change.. I have a general understanding (at best) of ASM, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

My 1st romhack (first kaizo levels actually) so I'm ready for the criticism! I do have a handful of levels on the go but I felt like only 1 was ready for a full show, so the rest are just screenshots. No OW yet, so the OW screenshot is just to show the player sprite. I felt the blank OW was an eyesore so I at least threw something together for yoshis island. I still have a lot to do (& a lot to learn!) but I figured I had enough that someone might appreciate what im trying to do

My only nomination. I just really want to see this in a boss fight (was planning on porting it myself when I figure out how to)
