That fire and ice level is very creative. I like how you naturally progress with the idea you have with using snowballs and icicles to create melting pathways across the lava.

Four games off from FF1, but thanks. This is going to be a hard boss to fight.

Quite interesting ideas you got there, especially the RNG pipe as I could see it be used for some great rewards or devious traps.

100 percented the hack, such an amazing experience.

This hack joins with the other SMW hacks I've played that proves to me that you don't need to have complex setups or rely on SMW's engine quirks to make engaging levels that is very commonplace in this community these years. This hack proves it with the way these levels are designed like traditional Nintendo-made Mario levels, which I believe are fairly simple ideas and naturally flows and expands on the ideas as one progresses through the game. The story naturally tells itself with the levels you play and the seasons you transition to.

The seasons also play a major part of the design experience that I don't think one can easily divorce since the level design take advantage of the ideas inherent within each of the 4 seasons in a way that is naturally expected that adds in a layer of depth to what I described above on the style of level design, and A Plumber For All Seasons excels at it.

Job well-done WYE.

Day 3 - A Small Selection of Music Specifically Made For Ordeal That Is Being Used.

Ordeal also has a selection of music specifically composed for this hack in order to help with its identity from the rest with a collection of music from various indie games that have music fitting for the haunted aesthetic Ordeal has in spades.

Final Fantasy XIV - Hamartomania - by brickblock369, going to be used in endgame levels.

Odallus: The Dark Call - Aquaducts Area 1 - by Plasmariel & brickblock369 (addmusicK conversion), for use in Florid Floodway.

Odallus: The Dark Call - The Dark Forest Area 1 - by Tamaki. For use in a few dark forest and swamp levels.

Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night - Voyage of Promise - by Wakana & Tamaki (latter unsampled it on request for it to be consistent with the rest of ports im using). Used in Shipwreck of Souls.

Atmosfear - Hellin's Toyland - ported by Wyatt. For use in an upcoming carnival level, look forward to it soon.

As a bonus -

Three scenes, the flaming crystal orb is done by Mikeystar, while the castle with and without Boos by Leg8cho, for another cutscene sequence that takes place mid-game.

Im sorry that I wasnt able to have demos out as I would have hoped but I am making it a priority to have one out at least, by around Halloween of this year.

You are getting better at creating custom sprites alongside asm, which is good to see.

I hope those sprites see some good use in hacks because these are really neat and have potential for some interesting ideas.

Your skill at using SMW's default instrument samples is something to admire, as you got great mileage with em, especially with the Touhou ones. Great work with em, bebn.

While I don't play Kaizo, I do appreciate the aesthetics as they give me that sort of GBA to DS-era bright pixel art visuals that just pops.

You guys are the masters of making levels that feel like they belong in an official hardtype SMW-era Mario game. The creativity on display is simple, yet effective at producing that kind of challenge. I especially liked
PEKORA'S BIG RAIDO because it asks you as the player to make judgements on whether to hit the switch to make a Panser crossing after each line-guide section easier or make a riskier play to spin jump them off but having the Dragon Coins and power-ups being availible to collect.

Well done.

I'll argue the opposite - I like how A Plumber For All Seasons handles the star coins because having to collect all 5 in one-go is something I see as a feature alongside getting a 100% completion of star coins because the levels are mellow and accessible enough for a wide range of skill levels regarding players who played Super Mario World and its hacks since the level design of this hack is generally is at the level of difficulty comparable to the original SMW.

The comparable difficulty to SMW based on the way the levels are constructed I believe that the way the Star Coin system is arranged currently helps as an optional challenge for those who want said challenge in which then the hack challenges you, the player to play the levels well with the ideas and themes each level in the hack brings to the table. If you mess up in getting the star coins in a single run with taking the above said into account, that is not the fault of the star coin system as-is but rather you, the player playing the hack, as I recall that nothing in the hack is actually designed in a way that is cheap and unfair to the player, from my experience playing it during C3. If any exist, one would be hard-pressed to find it.

The Star Coin system as-is feels rewarding for me, as the player, to collect them all 5 Star coins in one-go per each stage, for a hack that already is very accessible and well-designed.

Hate Kaizo. Never liked it. I just want normal hacks with nice level design, some puzzles, etc.

Kaizo is anything but fun. Should be removed completely and forbidden imo. It ruins the SMW hacking scene.

While I sympathize with this view as there is an abundance of Kaizos over regular standard hacks and that their design is grindy I can see that that people would be put off from it. I was like that on Kaizo and I still don't really play them today, but at the same time I do think that there are some really creative and interesting gimmicks seen in Kaizo and Kaizo-adjacent works such as contest levels with a focus on setups... we shouldn't be gatekeeping them out of the community. What I am concerned on is how would a SMW hacker be blending in Kaizo and standard hard/very hard bc that is the endgame for SMW hacking because that would be the final evolution of the push for setup design.

Also I do concurr that the standard hacking crowd should still make hacks in that style to keep it alive, but you should also make sure that the level designs are interesting. Standard dies if no one makes them anymore and no one practices good level design principles.

I am very impressed at the way you use your NSMB inspirations with the way you go about rendering the backgrounds and tilesets for something unique to your style.

Looking forward to seeing more of this.

I don't worship anyone on a pedestal but there are people whose works and levels I do generally respect because of their style and/or skill at level design.

I respect FPI, Skewer/amHunter, underway, Blind Devil, idol, icegoom, Daizo Dee Von, and WYE as creators that know their aesthetics well on how to craft specific experiences with what they convey with such graphical polish and selection in the case of ripped graphics. Five of what I list on that so far also focus on making interesting plots that also happen to have graphics that serve their works well.

I also respect the Gaiden level creators (lolyoshi, Adam, Truxton, Rextep), worldpeace, gbreeze, MiracleWater, levelengine (rip, hes banned but Return Trip and Disk Defrag has some really interesting levels which is why I list him on my list of level creators I do respect), Lazy, AxemJinx, MrDeePay, Koopster, Aeon, Higsby, and S.N.N. because of their experience with understanding how SMW's physics and Mario level design works and crafting challenging, but memorable levels that test the skill of players.

Japanese hackers I respect are KT, Anikiti, SIG, and Scarab.

Lastly, there are up-and-coming creators that I think do deserve your attention to play their works and ill have more to say when the time comes.

I don't have a single, specific favorite SMW hacker but several hacks whose authors i've listed before in this thread are good at various aspects of level design to create experiences they want to create and is worth appreciating their skill at creating said experiences.
