I was able to understand it just fine without the need of words to describe it what it is for, so you should too. Its a reskin of the ?-blocks for his current hack he's currently working on, but in the style of the Item Boxes from Double Dash based on the pattern and color similarities.

I'm pretty sure it's called 8-bit because it uses 8 by 8 graphics or something, I'm positive it's not because of color because Super Mario Bros. and Metroid for example, had way more colors than just 8.

As for the pictures, they're pretty nice, I love 8-bit graphics! Nice job, and continue on what will become a featured hack!

People call sprites "X-bit" because of era but its really the microprocessors used in our consoles, computers, and handheld devices that sets up the total color depth, not by how many pixels, superbot12.

Also Eevee, I am liking the originality seen in your hacks, mainly in part of the graphics you sprited.

Just saying: I still don't see the utter necessity of FG having lighter colors than BG. I'm starting to think that somebody here is being a bit palette-nazi. I could think about changing the palette, but I won't because of two reasons:

1) I could change this and two or three people would be satisfied... but the atmosphere would not be something I wanted for this level, specifically.

2) If FG was meant to be lighter than BG all time, then blame the original SMW. Except if you think that, in the first room of original Bowser's Castle, the FG isn't darker than BG (which I doubt, honestly).

Anyways, thanks for the feedback. I'd suggest, however, to think about what I said. This is starting to sound like those long, un-necessary dialogs involving SNES9x, BSNES and ZSNES emulator users.

And, to end my comments, a note: as I started this hack being a bit blind (seriously, I was half-blind), the problems with palettes were natural. The thing is, I could always release a second version, later, with corrected colors. Now, having a better eyesight (thanks to surgery), I can promise that Mario's Enigmatic Tales will have less palette issues.

Its primarily a matter of preference, dude. Go with what you want, but due know that on Point 2 of your response, you do not have to go what Nintendo does. Not every design choice Nintendo went with was good for the games they create.

Nothing wrong with using desaturated colors imo. I wouldn't crticize level atmosphere shown in the form of screenshots unless he explicitly tells us what he is conveying. Our "criticisms" are nothing more than guesses, assumptions, whatever as it stands and you all shouldn't be passing off your subjective criticisms as fact (which the way I see it is akin to forcing your own standards on others)

What a sorry-ass excuse for making half-assed projects that won't even be worked on. I agree with Scorpion about not being serious with hacking: If you can't keep on to improving, then don't touch Lunar Magic.

Replace "SMW hacking" with "Game creation" and "Lunar Magic" with "Game Creation software" because Kandicoot shouldn't even be touching these kinds of software, not just LM unless he's willing to spend long hours comitted to finishing at least one of his works. Game design is more than just a hobby and having a casual mindset is a recipe for failure.

Disagree, sir, that is, if you are commenting about the graphic style. You see, the edit Scorpion made to SMW Mario in 2011 for use in The Crater has been recycled for use in multiple entries into the Chronicles. I fail to see how his SMW Mario edit is graphically out of place in his own entry.

Plus I fail to even see what you mean by "He's also got something on his clothes." because really now, the Small and Big Mario forms have no bad palettes and that Fire Mario's palette is being adjusted.

Now then, things that annoy me with regards to SMW hacking.

-Hackers putting the cap to innovation to their hack designs, effectively becoming a sellout.
-Cancelation of promising hackers.
-People screaming that x resource is overused and expect you to conform to what they say.
-The mentality that if a hacker has used a broken music port makes it automatically their fault that their hack is incompatible with "Insert x emulator here", when it is the fault of the designer (this only applies to those who have started their hacks before the new moderation system)

Honestly, MercuryPenny, you must be thinking that because of the dark background he is using and the fact that Mario has a completely black outline used in Scorpion and metalgearhunter's recent works. The original game did not have a black outline for the player character. I personally have beta-tested HRR (the version Scorpion is remaking) and played their past works, and I can confirm that there are no botches within the belly nor the cap when I played the game.

Depends on the case. If said criticism is terrible and unhelpful, then they can say what they want (as long as its informed) at that critic. Plus the moment you post your opinion, you can be challenged and are expected to defend it.

I would tell myself from 2013 (at the time of this post with) this: Do not speak to others in a tone that is neutral, man when telling the truth. You'll only be alienating those because you'll come across to them as cold and harsh. If you value the truth so much, talk to others in a kinder way and know your place when attempting to explain things beyond mere opinions.

Honestly, the recolored background doesn't do a burning forest much justice imo. How about using a dead trees background from Mario's Lost World. (Think of Bob-Omb Bayou).

When I reached World 2's Boss Room of your hack, the game crashed on me, black screen and ZSNES stopped responding as indications of the crash. For shame, as it is such a nice hack with some unique gimmicks I havent seen in other hacks till that moment.
