This isn't really a topic I know too much about or can say too much about, but here's my two cents anyway
Free will... it's obvious to me we can make whatever choices we want, nothing has the power to crush our will. As for the decisions we make, I actually do think that everything that will ever happen is pre-determined. This may sound like a wild tangent, but as time travel seems technically possible around black holes and whatnot, I'd imagine that the future one would jump to HAS to be the same as the future that one waits for (this could be debated, but let's assume there's one universe). Therefore, in both "realities", the same exact series of events occurs, meaning nothing is really free for people to change at all.

tl;dr: We will always think our decision was a free one, even though it wasn't.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU @ this whole situation. I've heard that some people with beachfront homes are suing BP, b/c their property value has gone down so sharply. My aunt is a realtor in key west and says she has already lost at least 2 sales because of the oil. I just really hope this is the end of BP. also i think there should be a law that you can't drill at a depth lower than humans can dive to. This would all be easier if we didn't have to use remote controlled robots :|

Awesome BG @ edit. I wish i had the patience to rip such detailed backgrounds (as far as patching and palettes).

^A spritesheet from MFGG, that's supposed to be like the Lost Levels. Looks pretty nice IMO. I'll submit it after i create the other 2 palettes that come with it (autumn and snow)

Nice hadron. I must say, I'm amazed at how this community continues to find BG's to rip, day after day. Whenever I look for something to rip, it's already been done :\

Anyways, I finished the second palette for my ExGFX. DL is here

this, basically. As far as my major while I'm in college, I'd say either law school (I really love arguing, and it's the only field I can think of that involves it), or an actuary.

So apparently I haven't made a post since august ¯\(°_o)/¯

osheegee, death cab for cutie is the shit.

Anyways I recently stumbled upon a mashup album by Team Teamwork called Ocarina of Rhyme. It's a bunch of famous themes from OoT with rap by Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, and others over it. I know most people don't like rap, but I feel like this album can help people realize that with a good beat it can be pretty enjoyable.
MF Doom - Vomit (Horse Race at Lon Lon) <-- personal favorite from the album
Don't touch me (Gerudo Valley) A more well known tune.

...yeah. Not a rap guy, but with zelda music this is the dope on dope

Let me start this thread off by saying that I was in no way involved in making this hack, nor did I contribute anything to it. This is solely the creation of GBATemp's SKJMin. I figured this hack was a pretty big deal to the rom hacking scene, as its trailer garnered 20k views in the first 12 hours, and the GBAtemp thread had 654 users viewing it around the time of release.
Here's a quick trailer:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nd2gtBhgwQM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nd2gtBhgwQM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

The hack is a complete remake of all 8 worlds of SMB3 using NSMB. Included are a few remakes from SMB2 and SMW as well. I'm on a road trip ATM and haven't had the chance to play it yet, but from the responses it's getting it seems really nice.

So I figure this is kinda relevant to such a computer-oriented community. For those of you who live under a rock (outside of the US), Jeopardy is a quiz game show that's been around for a few decades. It's pretty self explanatory... clues are worth a certain amount of cash.

IBM has been working on a supercomputer with some extremely advanced artificial intelligence to compete in a jeopardy game against two of the most successful players to ever appear on the show. The computer's name is Watson.
d
Here's a vid from IBM from about 8 months ago demonstrating an early version of Watson.

On February 14-16th (next week) Watson will appear live on television to play the game. No one really knows what will happen... I personally think he's going to fist the humans so hard

For those of you thinking that it's a simple computer that just googles shit, it's much more intricate than that. Jeopardy clues are like miniature riddles, often with before and after, rhyme time, etc.

•Have you ever used drugs?

I have never used tobacco or even had a sip of alcohol, and while some may not consider these "drugs" due to their legal status, I know my facts and they both cause far more deaths than certain other drugs which remain illegal today. As far as hard drugs, the worst I've done is take 2 50mg Adderall, ADD medication, an emphatamine, widely known as the "study pill"... I beasted my test the next day. Then I had 2 more left and snorted them (the effect is the same as cocaine when snorted b/c they're both emphatamines). Sure, I got really fucked up and enjoyed it, but I haven't touched emphatamines since. Guess I'm too smart to get addicted.

Cannabis, however is my drug of choice, about every other day. I'm not going to sit here and ramble about it like a hippie, but for those of you that care, I suggest you do some research on the health effects of marijuana. You just might be surprised.

•Do you think Drugs should be Illegal?

I think cannabis, tobacco, alcohol, and *possibly* LSD should be legal, with age requirements of course. The rest of the drugs should definitely not be illegal, but probably decriminalized (which makes possession/use an infraction, the equivalent of a speeding ticket). You guys might have your doubts, but back in 2001, Portugal made heroine, cocaine, and other drugs decrim in an effort to combat the drugs. Before the decriminalization, 1% of their population was addicted to heroine.
Today, Portugal has less of a drug problem (per capita) than the United States. (source: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=portugal-drug-decriminalization)

•What do you think about the drug cartels and the 30,000+ dead in Mexico? Because of the U.S. Laws?

Well I don't know the exact incident you are referring to, but overall, the US war on drugs is one of the most fucked up wars ever fought. If I had a gun and 1 bullet and could kill either Osama bin Laden or the head of the D.E.A, I would go for the D.E.A. Why?
I would save a lot more lives.

•Addicting- marijuana has never proven to be addictive (no withdrawal symptoms are ever found in chronic users), and is widely classified as a non-addictive drug, though many people are unaware of this. Coffee is incredibly addictive, so are cigarettes, and they're both legal and can kill you. Doesn't seem like an issue. Addicts will be addicts, but the majority of people can be responsible.
•Will make all the people drug addicts. (I find this complete BullSh!t too.)- all? that's incredibly impossible. If people are that dependent on drugs mentally, they will buy them illicitly anyway
•It might encourage smoking- it might I guess. Although marijuana has many smoke free ways to get high (edibles, tea, vaporizing, etc.), its smoke is far less harmful than tobacco smoke. I'd say it would lower the number of cig smokers, which is always good.
•Might ruin a family- alcohol ruins hundreds of thousands of families. It's completely legal.

edit: if anyone wants to talk to me on irc id be more than happy to do so

They should be illegal. I will never touch illegal drugs. peer pressure doesn't effect me, and I had lot of it. No is a powerful word.

Are you sure the ONLY reason people do drugs is to be "cool"? I started alone, out of my own free will... my school is pretty snobby too, so if anything, my habits are uncool. And not all illegal drugs damage your body. Learn the facts before you judge the users.

I don't really care about that.

If drugs were legal, people wouldn't do anymore or any less.

Eh... I don't really buy this. Imagine crack were legal and alcohol were illegal. Crack might be a little more prevalent, and alcohol less prevalent. Having both legal means abuse will occur with both substances, meaning more drug use overall.

If drugs were legalized, the U.S. would have have more money for education, more rehabilitation clinics, instead of just prison cells.

What's sad is that our government makes money off of sending people to prison. That's bad.

Casuals @ NYC

I'm in Williamsburg (southeastern VA within like 50 miles of the coast) and we evacuated an hour West for the night it hit. When we got back to the house on Sunday the power was out and stayed out for another 24 hours... it just came back maybe 2 hours ago. There was no gas anywhere in town and the grocery stores were almost completely sold out. Also a massive tree fell in our driveway and our neighbors cleared it for us.
Pretty intense storm

The Union

To anyone on the fence about marijuana use or legislation, I highly recommend this movie. Just a documentary laying out the facts about cannabis, very convincing. If you have a problem with it, or find something false in it, I would love to hear about it in a PM.

I watched that documentary in late 2010 and since then have gotten more and more into weed. I went from once a week smoker to almost everyday during my senior year (this year). I vaporize instead often, which is better for lungs long term. At this point, I am convinced there are no serious long-term health effects of cannabis use, aside from the slight psychological addiction (there's no withdrawal/addiction with cannabis, but it sure as hell is boring when I take a break). Senior year, getting high every day, I still maintained my 4 GPA, and got into a top 20 college, and was one of the top tennis players in the state. I refuse to believe, as I still have no evidence, that cannabis is detrimental to a healthy person.

It's a shame I live in Virginia, one of the toughest states on weed in the US. There's legalization on the ballot in Colorado and Washington this November, and Colorado seems to have the support of the public, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on both of those states. We need to stop putting so many nonviolent drug offenders in prison, especially for cannabis.
