Okay, so I'm new to Super Mario World ROM hacking, but I've been playing around with Lunar Magic and figuring out how it works. However, I have come across a problem.

Okay, so that all looks fine. What happens is, as I intended, you can go down the pipe on the right side and then get shot out of the pipe on the left, which will take you through that string of coins and the dragon coin. Now the thing is that the player will pass through the coins, but nothing happens. You can get the coins normally, but not through the launch. What am I doing wrong?

-Thanks!

I think it's because the launch is bringing you back into the level. In other words, you won't be able to collect everything until the apex of the launch.

...I really hope that's not going to become a blatant level edit...

Oh, do you have any solutions to this or should I just move the coins?

As for it being a blatant level edit, it definitely won't be. I may be new to SMW ROM hacking, but not to ROM hacking itself, and I'm definitely not that n00by. Besides, this may not even be included in my actual hack. I still need to figure out how everything works, so yeah.
Okay, thanks for the help.
So let's say that I have a tile that I want to use but I also want to use a vertically flipped version (like an upside-down ledge). Is there any way to do this without editing the tileset? Just a note, I have to go to bed now, so any answers will not be looked at until tomorrow, so don't expect immediate feedback or anything.
Okay, thanks for the help everyone.
This is my first SMW level, so I would appreciate some feedback and don't just say it's bad or something, tell me what I can do to improve it. Also, I forgot to switch my recorder to stereo mix (fail), so I'm using AudioSwap so you have something to listen to, at least.

For a first level, that's pretty good. My biggest suggestion, though, would be to mix up the terrain quite a bit - as a rule of thumb, long stretches of completely flat terrain shouldn't be used all that much, or at least without other platforms and such to mix it up.
Also, there's a bit of cutoff at the midpoint where it cuts into the little bush. Shouldn't be too hard to fix though.

Okay, thanks for the feeback. I didn't notice that bush cutoff until I actually did the recording, and I will add some more terrain variation to it.
So before you accuse me of being a n00b, know that I DID read the FAQ and that I tried changing the initial BG position. I tried all of the values, to no success. So my problem is that the background in my level is full of garbage on the bottom, is there any way to fix this? As I said, I tried changing the BG position and even the FG, too, but the results were the same. I'm probably just missing something obvious. Oh, this is also not a custom background or anything, I just copied the standard underground background from another level (level E9 to be specific).
No, it's just a horizontal level.
How can I edit the levels used for the ghost house and castle entrance custscenes?
Weegee boss...BEST IDEA EVER!

Anyway, I'm still new at this, but I think this is pretty good (it's really short though, but hey, it's the first level).

Okay, this was actually my first try with ExGFX, so I'm proud of myself :P I will change the ground at the first part, but I'm having trouble with ExGFX backgrounds (no idea how to import palettes and I can't construct backgrounds from the MAP16 page for the life of me). Also, do you think the finding mushrooms in garbage cans thing is a nice touch? I thought it would be cool since I had those FG tiles already there.
To the people who gave me feedback on the level, I have changed some thigns such as the ground at the beginning of the level (it is now the other type of ground). I have also added a custom background for both the main and underground parts of the level. The palette has also changed for the main part due to the custom background. Anyway, you'll get to see the new palette and backgrounds when I upload the video of my second level.

Okay, so I have the video of the new level. In case you don't have annotations on, that pipe I go in used to lead to another sewer area like the first level did, but there were lag issues with it (I couldn't figure it out, I even removed all the sprites), so I took that out, which also explains why there is a Yoshi coin missing (which has since been added).

Okay, I'll try to brighten up the palettes a little bit (I have no idea how to do this, though).
So I'm having some trouble with the fade fix patch. I know I'm applying it correctly because I've done it before with success (I'm using Xkas GUI, so it's not really easy to mess up, anyway). Now I don't know why, but it's just not working. The ExGFX I'm using for the BG can be found here http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=showexgfx&id=717. Now what happens is that the windows and streetlights don't fade out. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Oh, I didn't do that, but I wasn't aware I had to set freespace for this patch. Maybe I just was getting lucky with it working without me setting it before.
Seth, in order for overworld changes to work, you have to start a new game (one that says new, not 0). I cannot answer your other questions.

Anyway, now for my question: What is the block that ledge-dwelling monty moles leave behind?
Try opening it in Lunar Magic, then moving something to a different spot and then back again. This will let you save it, and LM auto-corrects the Checksum.
Could you not just get the database from one of the backups out there?
