Hmm...

Also it's too soon for a new generation right now, there's still no sequel to X/Y and Volcanion hasn't been released yet.

About the direct itself, I don't know what to expect, probably I'll just set my expectations low.

Al menos es mejor que tener solo un tema en español en todo el santo foro.

Pero si, en Reznor tenemos mucho mas control de lo que se puede hacer.

Have you ever played Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance and said "Man, Juste looks like an albino red blob of shit"?

Have you ever wanted to rip away that annoying blue outline?

Have you ever wished to play as something slightly more resembling a human being?!

Of course not, nobody cares about Castlevania here anymore...

Well, your wishes have been granted!
Presenting to you: Slightly Better Juste Belmont™!

With this patch, you'll go from this:

To this!

This patch contains a slightly better shaded sprite and a new palette for Juste Belmont, it also updates the familiar sprites so you don't have to worry about weird colored sprites when using the summon book.
Now take some extra screenshots:

Yes, the sprites still are the same shitty ones from the original game but at least it has some extra shading (I edited every single sprite)

Now, probably you have left this thread because you didn't even care at all, but if you're still here and you're actually interested, then here is the download link:

A Slightly Better Juste Belmont awaits just beyond this link

NPC Color Thing
(AKA a little tool to easily get the color needed for a particular level when using the NPC sprites)

So, yesterday I tried using the NPC sprites that reads a message from a level according to a color in a palette, the X position thing was pretty simple to understand but the palette got me really confused.
When I asked for help *somewhere*, a certain user told me that he also couldn't get it to work, so after I experimented with the palettes a little bit and understood exactly how it worked, I went and made this little tool to get the color easier.

You just input the level you want in the text box and click the obvious button, it will then display the SNES color value (in case you want to input the color through ExAnimation) and the RGB values (Red is always 0) if you want to input the color through the palette editor.
If you click in one of the gray boxes, its contents will be copied to the clipboard.

The tool itself is fairly simple and the program is a few lines long but it works.

You know, I've been here for quite a while, just over 10 years actually (I know my profile says otherwise but remember the great wipe was a thing). And while I haven't been as active as I used to be all the way back to 2009~2010, I still check this site every so and then.

A few months ago, I began doing a small hack, just for fun. Messing around with Lunar Magic again was quite exciting, but something I noticed was the overall increase of simpleness to insert certain kind of things, like HDMA effects, blocks and stuff.

I would like just to remember how it was to hack in my heydays which were around... 2007 to 2009 up to 2010.

As some of you might remember, I finished two hacks, which are actually still in the site. Those where Mario in Midgard (2007, Pre-wipe, that's why it's full of errors and glitches and still here) and Chaotic Realm (2009, Hack about munchers pretty much).
I'll kind of compare how it was to hack back then to now but not really, it's more of just telling and you do the rest.
(Also throw some random things just because why not)

1.- Good old LM 1.63 (I think?, I'm pretty sure it was this one)
FG1, FG2, BG1, FG3.
If there's someone who think's I forgot about BG2 and BG3, those weren't really a thing until LM 1.7
Trying to fit graphics only on those was sometimes kind of hard, as space would run out pretty much everytime you ripped something. When it came to creating original graphics back then, you had to really take care how you were creating your tiles to increase the use of every single tile to the max. Nowadays it's pretty common to have free space, specially when creating original graphics, if you run out of space now, you probably would have a pretty bad time back then. Personally I never liked the idea of using FG1 and FG2 for non-global objects, but back then it was pretty much a necessity when it came to rips.

2.- Cross Knight (aka xkas)
It didn't have something particularly bad for the normal user who was someone just inserting a patch, only the small hurdle of having to find free space in the rom which wasn't something really complicated anyways, however. For the coder, as far as I remember anyways, they sometimes felt like it could have some extra features.

3.- Inserting music and a thousand* different Addmusics (*: Obviously exaggerated)
It was the wild west when it came to custom music when I was creating MiM, Inserting music was something that just a few kind of understood back then, so it was common to see .ips patches uploaded with preinserted music on it. I actually used one in MiM (That's why it only has Zelda ports), as for Chaotic Realm, it was a time when apparently everyone and their mother decided that they wanted to create their own version of Addmusic, so there were multiple ports that weren't really compatible between one and the other. Also, echo values that didn't care about ARAM, thanks to one exploit in the emulator's music emulation thingy.
Actually, before addmusic was a thing, there were .ips patches that had music ripped straight out of SMAS. So... you could choose between SMW, SMB1, SMB2 or SMB3 music.
Also... who remembers MORE.ASM?

4.- Blocks of blocky blockyness and the land of IF
Ah, Blocktool, it all began when some guy that went by jonwill decided to create a tool to insert blocks, it was nice and everything, however the code was pretty much shit from what I understood (basically, IFs everywhere) so it made your ROM pretty much a sluggish mess whose slowdown increased as more blocks you inserted, beautiful. Later on someone (I think it was SMKDAN) created Blocktool SUPER DELUXE HYPER TURBO ALPHA HD II and Knuckles* which was quite an improvement... however from what I've seen, what was amazing back then is shit these days, so GPS became a thing (and really made inserting blocks a pleasure compared to the previous one, which already kind of improved the insertion process a little bit in the user side of things)
*: It was only Blocktool Super Deluxe (BTSD)

5.- High Definition Magical A...majumbo
Actually Horizontal Direct Memory Access iirc.
I remember when I say a thread of someone explaining the idea of using HDMA to do the parallax effect, it looked like black magic back then, like holy shit go away you servant of darkness with your darky darkyness and stuff.
Inserting a gradient was like super advanced stuff back then, there was some kind of tool-patch thing that made things "easier" but it was unstable as fuck. I used that in Chaotic Realm actually, and I remember the ROM exploding pretty much every week.
It was common practice to use fake gradients using actual graphic tiles, the sky looked a bit nicer, but if you did a more complex one than just using the solid colors from FG2, then you ended up using precious space in the previously mentioned thigh GFX space.
I found quite shocking finding that what was previously thought as something straight out of a mad man's mind is now pretty much standard, just use a tool and create the effect you are looking for, take the code and insert it. Done.
And now that I mention inserting codes...

6.- Level ASM and the throne of lard.
Remember when Level ASM was just that, Level ASM, it didn't even have the init part. I actually remember when Level ASM didn't even exist (that's why HDMA related things were like some kind of sorcery)
It was pretty common to find hacks where the gradient or wave effect just popped in as the level started, it was kind of ugly so thank the lord all mighty for init.
Then it began a race to see who could make it better, a race that ended in Uber ASM, which allowed for many other codes to be inserted aside from the ones related to levels. I've never used the others so kkkkkkk.
As far as I know there's now a tool with a GUI related to UberASM but I haven't used it.

7.- The never ending quest for the true new Sprite tool
When I started, Mikeyk's sprite tool was a thing, currently is Romi's but it's just an edit of Mikeyk's original, so there hasn't been a true successor to Mikeyk's sprite tool like Blocktool, LevelASM or even Addmusic.
There's been a few attempts at creating one, the most famous one is tessera. There's a new attempt going on at this moment, hopefully this one will actually succeed.

8.- Dynamic Dynamism of Dynamics, also sprites.
The current dsx.asm is... not that bad as before.
If you had like... 3 dynamic sprites on screen, your level became a horribly corrupted version of the OW, a truly beautiful sight if you liked seeing things going horribly wrong.
I remember seeing this happen when I tested them and also when playing one hack of that-person-previously-known-as-S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N. (Skewer I think)
Anonimzwx created a successor to it, known as DynamicZ which seems pretty interesting, but I also know there has been some kind of resistance against it because of other features not that related to Dynamic Sprites (Like on-the-fly GFX uploading and on-the-fly palette uploading, among others) which increases the size of the patch.

9.- Standard Standards
Back then, standards were... pretty low, really, all your hack had to comply was to not have REALLY OBVIOUS cutoff, fatal design flaws and... that's pretty much it, really.
If I created a hack with the similar standards to the ones used when I created MiM and tried to upload it, it would get rejected pretty much immediately.
I've heard that the standards reached a point where a hack could get rejected for pretty much anything, I don't know if the current standards are still as high or got lowered a little bit.
Also, Cirno.

And that's pretty much all I think of at the moment of things related to hacking.
But not everything is hacking so I'll mention a few things from the community I remember from back then.

-The Attack of Arbe or something.
Arbe, don't remember too much about him but as far as I remember he was someone who just began doing attacks to the site just because whatever.

-The amusingness of Blueredmario (Probably missing something in the name)
He was an user that clearly wasn't a native English speaker (I'm not either, but he was pretty obvious), there were many phrases that became in jokes in the community, the phrase "im a music" (Like the porter's irc channel #imamusic) was one of his classics iirc. There were others that were pretty hilarious but I can't remember them at the moment.

-The titanic ordeal of the hundred requests
SNN was pretty much the first SMWC user to port something, or at least he was the first one willing to take request, so he set up a little thread, at first the list wasn't very long, however with the pass of time, the list became quite a beast, it passed some time until SNN gave up. I actually asked him to port something, when it finally got to my request, he only said it was impossible and continued. It was in the early days of porting so it was kind of understandable.

-The many attempts at a site collaboration hack
Way too many, all failures until SMWCP.

-The darkness of Nightfall
Who remembers Nightfall?, Kieran's first attempt at a successor to SMWC, he just close SMWC and put a barely working site on its place with many, many missing features. It was a mess, at the end SMWC returned back online but Kieran didn't want to know anything about the site anymore... until some time later.

-The green shoe of the Kuribo
Also in the topic of successors to SMWC, there was also Kuribo, Kieran's second attempt at a successor to SMWC, it was meant to pretty much every single hackeable Mario game possible instead of only SMW, Kieran actually tried to develop a stable version with as many features as SMWC before replacing SMWC with it, there was a moment when the front page was actually accessible and you could pre-register in the site. But then it got silent and as far as I know is pretty much dead.

-The great wipe
Ahh, the great wipe... I actually didn't get to see the disaster itself (was out of the city that day, didn't have access to the site) but from what I've heard it all began with a ridiculous idea known as the "Everyone is an admin for 1 day", afterwards it was chaos and in the end nothing but dust remained.
Ah, well... At least got a nice user ID from it. (74, just before Smallhacker's 75)

-History repeats itself
I've heard that there was an issue with a group of persons who thought they where over the staff recently...
Well, that actually happened before.
Enter Spade, He and his followers were the lords of shitposting in the days of old, they did dumb jokes with fake uploads and other things.
When I heard about what was happening, the first thing that came to me was the memory of Spade, goddammit Spade you asshole.

-The war of the lard
There was an in joke that SMKDAN was like this massive being whose corporeal constitution was pretty much just lard, he was considered like some kind of overlord of asm or something like that. So later on other programmers tried to surpass him, so the battle for the throne of lard began.
Actually when someone showed something related to ASM, that person was automatically labeled as someone with lard, someone had more lard the more complex the ASM they could program.

-The dwellers of discord
What happens when a music porter joins with an ASM programmer?
Art, truly beautiful art.
SNN and Ersan(iomnomnomnom) joined forces to create an "album" with some of the most precious pieces of music ever created.
You won't know how great it was until you hear it by yourself.

-The conquest of the illusory land of the east
There was this moment when everyone, pretty much everyone, was into Touhou, it was impossible to visit the site and not see someone with a Touhou related avatar, layout or signature, it was EVERYWHERE. I resisted at first but in the end I ended up trying it, it was fun but not that much as to be THAT big, Youmu still best 2hu though.

And that's what I can think of at the moment, there's a lot more I'm pretty sure but it's like 2:00 am and I want to sleep, but I will say something before leaving.
When I joined this site I was in 1st of Secondary (1st of Middle School, 7th Grade or whatever, way too many ways to call that), I actually found about SMWhacking when I was in my final days of Primary/Elementary, but didn't find the site until later.
Currently, I'm working as a technician in a manufacturing plant that produces the products of a known brand of audio equipment, so time sure flies and now I'm pretty curious about your memories in both hacking and this site, I think it could be a pretty neat topic of conversation.
I do pixels sometimes
Hello, I'm back from the land of the death or something, today I don't really have one specific thing to show so I'll just take some screenshots of multiple small, non-serious projects I've been working as a way to spend some of my free time.

ANYWAYS! Let's start with the first one:

And now probably you have many questions...
Well, the story behind the creation of this specific hack is pretty lengthy but I'll try to make a short version of it.
-Some guy in some other forum tried to get an online girlfriend and when this girl got an actual irl boyfriend he went berserk.
So that's all you need, this guy was already known for being kind of edgy but when that happened he became even edgier, when I saw that I just knew I had to immortalize what was happening in a small little joke hack.

Now the actual in-game story:
Pozo, the edgelord, kidnapped Peach after he lost the love of someone he barely knew, so Mario now must storm the Edgecastle to rescue Peach and defeat the edgelord.

I would show some screenshots but I think you have to play this one without knowing what's waiting for you, it's just 1 level long and I made it in less than a week a few months ago so don't expect greatness.

A Download link or something

------------------------------------------
Now another little hack I've kind of been working for a while now.

(The Logo is in spanish, but it says "The Lolifortress of Noxus the Pedophile")
Once again, it's another joke hack, kind of a sequel to the previous one, but this one is actually being made to be enjoyed even if you don't know anything about it.
(aka actual effort is being put into it)

The story behind it's creation is a lot shorter so here it goes:
-Some other guy from another forum stalked a literal 12 y/o for months.
Fairly simple.

The in-game story is also kind of simple but at least more thought was put into it than the previous one:
One day, Mario received a Letter from a cousin who lives in the northern lands of the kingdom, the letter said that some terrible man with a fortress in a mountain had kidnapped their daughter. After Mario read that, he immediately went to the small village in the north where his cousin lived.

This one isn't finished yet, but I actually feel comfortable to release screenshots of this one.

The village, here you can see some of the villagers

The beginning of the road towards the Fortress

Another screenshot of the same area

This is an underwater area, as you can see there's water currents in here.

This is the area after, now Mario is going up the Mountain.

Another screenshot of the same area.

This is the entrance to the fortress at the top of the Mountain.

This is the start of the fortress, as you can see it's in a pretty bad condition.

This is one part of the fortress.

The same room, but at the top of it.

One of the children's rooms, the clouds in the BG have a very slow movement.

And that's pretty much it for this one so far.
---------------------------------------------------
Now, switching a little bit, here's a small RPG Maker XP project I created last year.

I started this one in 2015, my brother created a little thing using RPG Maker called "Castle" and it had a really annoying enemy called "Skeletoid", so I decided to create a thing to counter his.
While finished, it isn't fully translated so I'll just show some screenshots (Pretty much everything is made using the default assets and the original ones aren't made with effort at all)

The main area, Here you can see our Main Character, Shulk (Yes, that Shulk)

The Status Screen, here you can see the other characters in the party (Yes, it's pretty random)

A random battle, If you know RPG maker XP, then you'll notices that it's the default battle system.

Victory screen.

This is a solo section with John.

No download link because, As I mentioned before, it isn't translated yet. so K.
---------------------------------------------------
And Finally, to finish here is another project I've been working on, this time using RPG Maker VX Ace.

This one's still WIP, this is the sequel to Zanza and Friend's Amusement Park and it's bigger and more ambitious in pretty much every way.

This is the Begnion Area, it's the first one and it's home to the Tower of Guidance, where the Goddess Ashera is said to be. It's been closed for a while and in order to open it, you have to go through the different attractions across the other areas in the park. You can go to the Serenes Forest Area or the Daein Area from here.

This is a part of the Serenes Forest Palace, it's purpose is to tell the story of the Massacre of Serenes Forest.

This is the Crimea Area, it has a concert hall (not shown in the screenshot), however the screenshot shows one of the games' stores (In the tent). You can go to the Serenes Forest Area, the Daein Area and the Gallia Area from here.

This is part of the Gallia Colosseum, it's purpose is to have fights in the center area of the building so spectators can enjoy a moment of a fierce battle between Laguz.

This is the Phoenicis area, it's a rather mountainous area so it felt natural for it to have a Roller Coaster as its main attraction (Roller Coaster in Spanish is "Montaña Rusa" which translated to English literally means "Russian Mountain"). From here you can take a boat to the Gallia Area or the Kilvas Area

This is the Daein Area, it's divided in two parts, a normal part and a colder part, in the colder part is a building that has two uses, It's a laboratory and also is the Administration office. From here you can go to the Begnion Area, the Crimea Area or the Hatari Area.

This is inside the building, it is the laboratory side of things and as you can see, it's pretty dark.

This is a lot further into the game, this is the 6th floor of the Tower of Guidance.

----------------------------------

And that's pretty much it for my stuff, I know nothing of this is like, interesting at all. But probably someone will like something from here.

Happy C3 and have a nice... day... or night... or whatever.

Oh hey, that's where my logo went
Looks pretty cool, this definitely adds many new ways to play the original SMW levels, although I'm pretty sure some people around here might want it for something else.

Anyways, looks great Including the weird glitches you have shown somewhere, Kaizo Odyssey when?
