I'm pretty new to SMW hacking. I know the basics, but I have some questions:

1. I want a cave layer 1, but a sky background. I have played around with the palettes, but I don't know how to do it. How do I do it?

2. How do I change the title screen? This includes the wooden frame and the words (I already know how to change the animation).

3. How do you edit the Mario sprite, a la the VIP hacks?

Thanks. :)

Thanks for that. It is apparent you know a lot about SMW hacking. I appreciate you taking your time out to answer my question even though it was misplaced. One more thing, though: how do you change sprite's behavior (e.g., making fireballs shoot straight instead of bouncing)?

I see. Can you link to Tweaker? I don't know of it, and I assume that Googling "tweaker" doesn't merit the best results...

Oh, heh. Thanks.

EDIT: @Lemmy: I just downloaded the program, and, as far as what I can tell, yes it is.

That's lovely. Any other must-have programs or must-know techniques for SMW hackers?

I'm probably getting Ninji'd right now, but anyway.

I have SO MANY QUESTIONS!! ARGH, I must be SO ANNOYING!!

...

I'm watching SirRonLionHeart right now.

Anyway, what is the difference between ExGfx and regular graphics?

EDIT: I was getting Ninjedit'd. You edited that while I was typing the reply.

ExGFX are GFX from different games like megaman, YI, castelvania zelda, paper mario, etc. The original smw gfx, they are just grasslands, cave and castle, etc. But if you are planning on making a vannila hack, (A hack that has nothing custom) you can do alot of cool things with pallete editing. Regular GFX are really boring (to some people) unless you change things like the palette.

kso...

ExGfx are graphics not included in SMW, e.g. custom enemies such as the Chain Chomps and Cutoffnessman in The Cookie Crisis. Anything else is GFX.

OK then.

How do you work with ExGfx? Do you make them or download and insert them?

Thanks-you for clearing all that up for me. The guy's accent in that second video is epic, by the way. But if I download a sprite from this site, how do I know which SPnumber to change?

Thanks. I'm having trouble using Overworld Sprite editor. I typed in the name of my rom, then list.txt, but I can't seem to figure out what to type in for "routine".

I can't seem to find my answer there, and the link in that tutorial is broken.

Not the link to the tutorial, the link in the tutorial, to download that program you need to open the .pl file. Anyway, I can't find in the tutorial the answer to my question. Please just tell me.

Got it. Thanks. To continue with this escaparade of questions, is there an invisible block with a vine in it? If so, where is it? If not, can I make one?

I figured out a new system for hiding my vine block, so that doesn't matter anymore. Thanks anyway. I'm designing a level for the contest, by the way. I started making a cave level because that's what I thought they meant by "vanilla level", but I stuck with it.

EDIT: I can't find the munchers in the sprite list. I checked Tileset-Specific too. Could you tell me where they are found?

EDIT: Never mind, I found it. It's an object.

EDIT AGAIN: How do you flip the munchers so they're upside down or sideways?

I'm not making a vanilla hack, just the one level. My hack will include some custom stuffs probably. But it's good knowledge to have anywhich.

...

........

Raocow.

EDIT: Never mind. I figured it out. But is it possible put it sideways?

No, I meant I was watching raocow so I'm a little random. I'm making the level for the contest and I want to know if you can turn an object sideways.

Thanks. SO MANY QUESTIONS!

How do you change the Auto-scroll in a level? It's slow when I enter, and that works fine, but I can't change the speed after I enter. I put the sprite around the top of the screen, made it so Mario could touch the sprite, and yes, I'm sure the speed on the sprite was different. I can't figure it out. Also, I need it so you exit when you fall off the level. I can't seem to figure that out either.

OK OK OK. You know how you can set the Auto-Scroll to, say, Slow? How do you change it to Medium or Fast in the Middle of the level? Also, I want that exit to lead to another level, not exit the stage.

Side exit enabled doesn't work.
