Can I even put teleport blocks in a vanilla hack?
OK, I used a pipe. I can't figure out how to use BlockTool anyway, and the tutorials don't help...

Yes, that. Thanks for the help. I'll come back if I have any more questions.
As I said before, I'm not making a vanilla hack. I'm making a vanilla level for the contest. I'll probably start on a chocolate hack when I finish the vanilla level. As for Block Tool, I got BTSD, which I know how to use. But is there anything in Block Tool not offered in BTSD, and can I use the .bin files in Block Tool with BTSD? If so, how?
Can I just copy the bin files from Block Tool into the BDST folder?
Ok then. What's the difference between ExGfx and Super ExGfx?

ExGFX files have numbers between 80 and FF while Super ExGFX files have numbers between 100 and FFF in their file name. I'm pretty sure the number (and the fact that the overworld cannot use Super ExGFX) is the only difference, otherwise the number doesn't matter at all.

Is what I meant. I heard that 100-FFF is Super ExGFX and 80-FF is ExGFX, but I didnt know if there was a difference.

EDIT: If I want to make ExGFX, do I edit the empty space in the GFX file, or do I make a new bin file with YY-CHR? Or something else entirely?
Check the Sprite Memory setting by pressing the button with the Lakitu on it. If that doesn't work, check the Sprite GFX by pressing the button with the poison Mushroom on it.
1. I can't help you, sorry.
2. Do you mean for a water level, or just a water section? Either way, you need to enable sprite buoyancy by clicking on the Lakitu button and clicking one of the boxes (the bottom one if Layer 2 is an image), but for a water level you need to click on the door with a 1 on it and check Make this level a water level. No water tiles are needed for a whole water level.
Ohh, water level tiles! OK, well it seems as though your question has been answered.

Neither. A new bin file will be the wrong size, and you cannot draw in that black space. With ExGFX, you must replace the content of the GFX file.

So if I replace the GFX, and save it as a different file, and insert the ExGFX, will I still have the GFX? If not, I guess I have to choose a GFX to permanently replace, huh?

You don't need to replace the GFX files... opening one and saving it under a different name is just a convenient way to get the right file size.

How do you suggest I make ExGFX then?

Step 1: Open an already existing GFX file, specifically the one you want to base an ExGFX file on.
Step 2: Edit it however you want.
Step 3: Go to "File --> Save As" and save your file in your ExGFX folder as "ExGFX**", where ** can be any number between 80 and FFF.

Which, I would assume, permanently replaces the original GFX?

Umlaut, did you read my previous post?

Now I have. I didn't see yours or the one after it, because when I was typing that post is when you and Ultima posted, so they weren't listed as new. I understand now, thanks everyone for your help.

In other news, I know how to ExAnimate now!

What program do you guys recommend for hex editing? Also, in the tutorial in the FAQ, the one in a thread here, where is the so-called "Ram Map"? I can't find it...

Also, I should mention that I'm VERY impressed that you already know how to ExAnimate.

Thanks. It's really simple once you know how; MoltovMarioWorld's tutorial is the one I used.

I'm learning ASM editing, hence why I needed the Ram Map. I was looking in all the toolbars in Translhextion for it... I feel so stupid.

I know how to make ExGfx too (thanks to all you), too bad I can't draw for sugar. Any more techniques I should know?
I have Romi's Addmusic, but I don't know how to use it.
OK thanks. I want a custom palette, and I edit the colors in the background but the color doesn't change... what's wrong?

Yees.

EDIT: I know what the problem was now. But how do you edit the status bar?
Got it. Thanks. About ASM, though, I know how to edit ASM for levels, but how would you go about ASM editing for blocks or enemies or other things?

Could you tell me for both?
