I wonder if that football bounces from slopes like in Super Mario World. You know, to be extra evil.

Change $00D718 (PC 0x05918) from 1E to 00 to make Mario run even when X/Y is not held.

minidumb is dumb, but honestly it's a rather nicely designed hack, kinda joke-ish. I would personally call it Kaizo, but like easy Kaizo.

Curiously, worldpeace did have timer reset on Midway Point in his levels (for example https://youtu.be/huGH8E0sUjY?t=205), which is really neat, but I don't think worldpeace ever released code that does that (it's not very complicated, but hey).

Because it would be so good that it would kill Super Mario World ROM hacking forever.

4) wipe cache every time someone overwrites a file (extremely hacky and i'm not sure you even can wipe a single cache entry from cloudflare)

https://api.cloudflare.com/#zone-purge-files-by-url (# links on this site seem to not work, so you may want to search for Purge Files by URL)

Note that purging cache after using that API usually takes 30 seconds or so.

I think `?v=2` approach is reasonable myself.

I ran out of ideas, so I decided to make a vanilla version of my 24hosmw #12 contest entry (for reference, this entry did ask you to speedrun rooms within 4 seconds time limit).

I don't have retry system anymore (as FPZero has said "The retry system was the only non-vanilla thing I noticed and I feel that it was essential to this level's success."), and at least four judges out of five are aware of my 24hosmw #12 entry, but that's not stopping me. May as well have fun implementing something in vanilla when I was "challenged" to make my level without retry system.

Some of accessibility features you ask about exist as emulator features: savestates, rewinds, slowdown, cheat system, and Lua scripting. It's also possible to modify any given ROM to add whatever accessibility features you need. Arguing that consoles don't have such features is in my opinion irrelevant, as owning a SNES is kinda rare, and even if you do own a SNES there is a valid workaround of playing on something else.

Emulator is probably a better place for non-game-specific accessibility features anyway. For instance consider something like rewinds. Their implementation eats a lot of RAM, which makes it problematic to implement within SNES constraints, but it's mostly trivial in emulation layer as computers these days have a lot of RAM.

As for colorblind mode, this is only relevant for gimmicks making use of color. That said, granted, Super Mario World made a mistake of having four different color of Koopas that are distinct only by color - however I feel like in Kaizo hacks often enough you don't need to actually know Koopa colors, from a given setup it's often very easy to determine what color a given Koopa is if it matters. Barbarian, author of Grand Poo World series is color-blind and plays a lot of Kaizo hacks, and I don't think this caused many issues (if any) overall.

idol asked me post feedback publicly, so here we go. It may be a bit critical, but eh, may as well provide feedback about things that could be improved.

First, I feel like giving 20% of points for aesthetics is a bit much for 24 hour contest. VLDC only gives 10% of points for aesthetics. I think there is too much focus on aesthetics, especially considering within 24 hours there isn't really much time to polish entries.

Second, the theme. I think themes in 24hosmw are a great idea, like really. However, this was... not ideal. 24hosmw #12 had a great theme, the number four. Super Mario World itself had number four everywhere (which is fitting for the game also known as Super Mario Bros. 4). There were many, many, many ways the gimmick could be interpreted, and you didn't have to touch custom ASM.

Meanwhile, this contest had "light" as a theme, which I think was a bit too restrictive. To do pretty much anything other than everybody's favorite flashlight and Blackout Basement gimmicks (which pretty much nobody knows how to use correctly) you pretty much needed custom ASM, and in many cases it had to be written specifically for the contest. Well, okay, I guess low gravity gimmicks are rather simple to implement without ASM knowledge, but that's about it.

Third, the timing of the contest. I was pretty much unable to participate myself due to most of contest taking place Monday in European timezone when I was in the work. I think that all 24hosmw contests should start on Saturday to make them as accessible as possible to SMWC members.

Question, in the demo link there's this at the top of the page :

Is it a custom search function for SMWC2 or just a google search bar (which add site:smwcentral.net when searching or something like that)?

It's a Google search bar.

Same for the language, does it launch the website with google translate? If yes are the languages available dependent of the web browser (as I only have choice between english and français)?

This changes interface language only, as in stuff like text language on main page, menu buttons and so on. It doesn't translate user-provided content.
