Super Mario Starlight Remix is The V's hack which I had moderated before and which would have been denied if I hadn't fixed the death in the intro screen by myself.
The storyline is rather lame, Mario has to save both King Apollo and the Princess!
This hack features 96 new levels with an average level design, though cutoff and other various minor things can still be found throughout playing this hack. The secrets are frankly a breeze. A new Overworld is not made either.
On the other hand, new graphics add to a nice, smooth gameplay!
As a result, I'd say this huge hack is worth giving a try. It may be mediocre, though it really deserves being hosted on SMWC!
Edit: This hack is also quite old now. You should take this into consideration! Thanks goes also to xxUltima34xx for submitting this hack for the first time after the wipe!
As the hack's creator, I see no real reason to keep this around other than for the sake of history. Wakana is right that it's a rather mediocre hack. It was created way back in 2006, when I was still a n00b hacker. Mario & Luigi: Starlight Island Adventure is a complete re-imagining of this and is a much better hack.
The design is pretty bad. The author keeps using the same way of designing his levels for the whole 96 exits this hack is made of. There are no variations of it, except for enemies and GFX, resulting in a very boring hack overall. Nothing much more to say.
Aesthetics are questionable most of the times, since they are either confusing with the FG, weird paletted, cutoff and major errors. I must say that some BGs looked actually original, and this justifies my 2/5 not being an 1/5. It needed lots of more work though.
- There are some overworld gfx event glitches occuring often.
- Major slowdown and sprite tile limits issues. Sometimes there are so many sprites on screen that some items, needed to proceed in the level, don't appear.
Overall, yeah, a boring hack which tries to edit the original SMW. Not worth a shot if you don't like extremly easy hacks with the same design repeated 96 times.
