This is my christmas hack. Graphics in this hack are all winter graphics, but graphic of Peach' castle isn't. Now I will continue my other rom hack project, smb bowser chaos. fixme: music breaks on accurate emulators.
This is a nice looking hack, but it's far from easy.
There are way too many pits you can fall into in the first level, and in the second level you have to perfectly jump on note blocks, avoiding munchers and the deadly water below it. After that, you have to ride a skull raft while avoiding fire/hammer/ice bros. Plus it's all ice, so you have to be really careful not to fall down while you're sliding.
The third level was shockingly easy compared to the first two. For an "easy" hack, this is what I expected all of the levels to be. After playing for half an hour, I lost my last life in the fourth level and gave up (for now).
There were some issues with the music, and I had to reset the emulator twice, after the hack stopped working for some reason.
The design is more or less good. The levels are pretty basic, without too many shenanigans. Some parts may be too complicated (like the cave with the ice/fire/hammer bros., but it's okay overall, it still manages to be fair and fun enough to play.
Aesthetics are okay. Maybe they're kind of clashy if we consider the overall style of the hack (Yoshi Island, NSMB, vanilla, etc don't go too well together), but each level is good enough. Maybe "Snowy Fields" was too empty due to no background, but that's just a small niptick. The overall is still okay.
- Music breaks on accurate emulators.
- The final boss is silly, if you mess up the throwing blocks you have to redo it, since the ones put in the arena are the exact number you need to defeat it.
Overall, it's good enough. Not something incredible, but you can't say it's this bad. Also happy xmas.
