This is similar to "Scorpion's Hunt", same music, gfx, kind of design, and so on. Here, though, the design has been changed a bit from a standard SMW hack, since the player can double jump. The gimmicks and the design around it has been made pretty nicely, although some parts are extremly hard and need a perfect jumping tempo in order to be passed. Here too, the HPs haven't been handled in a nice way, since you will pretty much end by having only one heart for a long time, until you die and restart. I'd have loved if this (as well as Scorpion's hunt) had more hearts within each level. I got irritated by the bob-omb gimmick, probably the worst gimmick this hack uses, since when you throw the bob-omb, its explosion timer won't reset, and you have very little time to carry it to where you need it to destroy the wooden blocks. As for the rest, it's pretty challengy, as expected from the author(s). A good design overall, it manages to keep the fun factor up.
Aesthetics speak by themselves, do they? This is probably the best legacy hack in terms of ExGFX, everything is custom and enriched by exanimations (I loved the spinning heart). If I can suggest something, I'd redo the ON/OFF blocks entirely, they look silly and don't really fit with the whole atmosphere.
Some issues:
- Music breaks on accurate emulators.
- Most of the secret exits can't be taken. In the hack you'll find out that you need a P-Switch in your item box in order to unlock their path. This hasn't been implemented yet, so incase you can't find one, just be aware of this.
- Some huge slowdown, occuring rarely enough.
Overall, a beautiful hack. Be sure to play it!
