A hack that's very inconsistent with its level design. Second level felt pointless, the third level had a dynamic that felt like something out of Kirby (disregarding the predominantly Kirby soundtrack of the hack) and the difficulty curve is very steep. The third level feels normal, the first two feel very easy, and the fourth one was pretty annoying after the midway point in several ways next to what kind of gameplay you just came from.
The hack has some nice backgrounds, even if they look richly detailed next to vanilla sprites and foregrounds. The Sutte Hakkun stuff and anything simpler actually didn't clash too badly, but the DKC mountain BG didn't go well at all with the mushroom ground. Further detracting from the eye candy would be the grossly high contrast in the text and the mushroom foreground in the final real level, as well as some particularly nasty palettes on goal signs and midway posts in areas. The YI Yoshi didn't belong visually with anything.
The end of demo level was a kick in the ass because it gave me a glitched goal sphere and led me off the overworld and I couldn't go back and play and didn't even get a save prompt. Guess which hack isn't getting an SRAM in the Savebase. :|
Souseiseki and Suiseiseki were nicely drawn, but needed a "small sprite" or a health meter since it's impossible to tell if you're small or big.
Despite aggravating flaws, I like this hack because the main characters have heterochromia and that's cool.
