Tip: The lowest row of 16x16 tiles in a level do not appear, unless the "Allow viewing full bottom row of tiles" box is checked in the menu. Be mindful of this when designing levels!

Details for Mario's Search for the Shrine of Eternal Ice
This level was made for the Special Level Design Contest 2015.
But I think it's long enough to be hosted in the hack section.
PLEASE read the ReadMe!
Have Fun ^^
Update: Version 1.1 fixes a bug you can encounter in the boss room (thanks to eric99333 for discovering the bug) and I also removed one sprite to decrease slowdown.
I really didn't like this at all. The one hit kill thing really pissed me of and only 1 level. Seriously? If it's only 1 level at least lable it a demo.
@killer dagger
It's nice to know that you liked it that much.
Unfortunally there are currently no plans on making this into a full length/longer hack.
Right now I'm working on a hack, which will have more than 50 exits and I made different design choices for that one.
But I can tell you that I'm planning on making a hack featuring a mega man like powerup system when I'm (maybe) halfway done with the current one.
So stay tuned ;)
@GammaV
I can see your point. My train of thought was that giving the boss 3 hp was to easy, because you can kill him in literally 5 seconds. The only two ways I found resonable to increase his difficulty was either making the ground only block thick or increasing it's HP to 5.
I tried both possibilities and sticked with the latter one, because it was more enjoyable to play than starting the fight and immediately loosing ground, if you don't know what to do.
If there wasn't a checkpoint right at the beginning of the boss, I would agree with 5 HP being to much, but the way it is, 5 seems reasonable to me.
But thanks for your feedback , I'll watch out for stuff like this in my future projects.
@ft029
I never heard complaints about wavy background before, but I'll reduce the frequency in future levels.
you can read about the boss HP in the answer I gave GammaV.
Thanks for your comment as well.
For the most part, this was very creative and enjoyable. I would've rated it 5 stars if not for the boss, which, in my opinion, took way too many hits to kill and became tedious. I do love the adventure game feel of this though, but the boss keeps me from wanting to replay due to its health and my Old Lady Reflexes.
I guess you weren't worthy ;) Yeah it's only one block, so maybe a little precise. But I wanted the cutscene to be near to the middle of the shrine and I couldn't code anything to move the camera, so that was my way to do it.
But thanks =)
When I fought the boss it took me a minute or two to figure out that I was supposed to freeze the fireballs, so I ended up fighting for my life on like four ice blocks. At the ice shrine where I'm supposed to press select, it wouldn't accept my respect for a few minutes for whatever reason.
