I actually really liked this hack. I think if you fix the issue that Wakana pointed out, then this hack will be very good.
I gave it 5/5 regardless.
Hope you'll keep working on this hack.
I'd be really sad if you gave up.
It is not all about rating and points, Niko. Making a hack strictly for points and ego should not be the central reason for creating a piece of art, in my opinion. I think you should re-reflect why you make hacks in the first place.
I'm gonna be honest here mate and before you reply with "nope, not gonna change my mind" only the first few sentences are "harsh".
If you can't handle getting "negative reception" which was in fact neutral at worst and constructive, honest criticism, you shouldn't be uploading ROMhacks to anywhere. If ratings are all that you care about then it's just not something for you, as is anything that requires any artist integrity. If you get "bad" ratings, that means you should heed peoples' advice and apply it to your hack. You can't expect a project that's your supposed second hack with one world to get a 5.0, 100%, 10/10 rating. You want to make this hack get a higher rating? You work on it, you build on it, rework the levels as you go on, add in new interpretations that you wouldn't have thought of originally. I'm not saying you rushed this project, but if you're so angst about ratings it's leading me to believe you are rushing it. I know saying making Super Mario levels is art is stupid, but it does require artistic integrity.
That said, the hack isn't bad, it's just that at this point in time these vanilla hacks with palette changes have been done a LOT. These hacks are bound to get average scores, even if it were a full-length hack. You gotta be unique and give your levels and hack a whole new flavour. You can stick to the vanilla style you're going for, but give people reason to try it out over another vanilla hack other than nice palettes from a window view.
Just keep at it, bud. Sometimes the images say a lot. Give the people something to look at that makes their head turn. Possibly give it a more dynamic name as well. Names often interest someone in a game. For example, Bonni's Quest sounds basic but then you realise it's not named after Mario. Mario and the Fourth Sector has a name that though it's associated with Mario, it has an interesting name, sounding space related. "Space related in a 2D Mario game? That's interesting, how did they go about that?" Simple things, man. There are too many "Mario's Adventure" titles out there that it gets boring looking at it for the twenty-eighth time. Don't get discouraged, just keep a stiff upper lip and use the ratings as a means to improve your hack to reach the rating you want it to be at.
No. Don't you dare do that! I know you can do much better! Don't give up... Please... If you're going to quit hacking, at least say it isn't forever... You have so much potential... Don't let it go all to waste!
Hey, just because someone makes constructive comments on something you did doesn't mean you have to quit making hacks forever! You can always improve on stuff like that, and it seem you forgot what I said last time. You still can improve so much, don't give up just yet! Stay determined!
@much Sorry but this is my last hack ever.
I will not do an update for this.
Look at the rating from this.
It makes not fun when you make a hack you think its good or okay (i mean its a demo) and then the people hate without a reason.
MSA1 has a 2.7 ratin. Yesterday it was 3.0
This is my bad ratest hack EVER and i think its over now.
It make no sense to make other demos or hacks.
An okay-ish hack. Despite it being a little bit too repetitive in design (biggest offender may be the item babysitting, occuring in almost all the levels), it is good enough to be accepted. Glad you made it more than twice longer compared to the previous version, now the lenght is acceptable.
There are no big issues with this, although:
- I'd still suggest you to improve the design a bit. As I said, it's a little bit too repetitive, mostly, the use of springboards to pass over big walls.
- I'd recommend submitting an update to fix this part of the fourth level. You can get stuck if you didn't bring the springboard with you, and you're forced to die.
2/5 for now. Hoping for future demos with general improvements.
