At the end of the game, there is a subliminal message that plays in the background during the "THE END" title sequence.
I managed to grab Audacity to record the hidden message, then used Vegas Pro to stretch it shorter and pitch shift it 2 octaves up to discover that it was a reversed and looped message of the Hong Kong 97 song, "I Love Beijing Tienanmen" with heavily filled-droning buzzed audio.
EDIT: If you guys want to play the game without the freeze glitch in one of the levels, I would suggest using Snes9x.
I HATE YOU is the absolute pinnacle of romhacking, and it is my belief that nothing—that’s right, NOTHING—will ever surpass it in terms of graphics, asm, and most importantly, its story. I HATE YOU has the most heartwrenching, and tearjerking story every. So much so that I’m surprised it hasn’t won an Oscar for how good it is.
I was wondering if someone actually made an accurate rom hack representation of the story. From the footage I saw on youtube, it's damn impressive that you made a more accurate representation on the original game than somebody did on Gamemaker. My only complaints are:
1) Really? The Kefka laugh and the "You're Next" screen when you eat the mushroom?
2) I think it would have been better if it played exactly (down to the last key) like the original SMW just with the extra ending.
3) It would have been even creepier if the end screen had the original credit-roll music.
tl;dr No dumb creepypasta cliche's, and make it play like normal Mario, with the one difference.
I just want to say that this hack is a great hack and an amazing recreation. It is very good, It was very well-designed and also it stays faithful to the original creepy pasta. I also really liked the boss fight with luigi and when you have to spin him into the lava. It was really cool. I'm going to test if I can get this hack to work from an everdrive Snes cart on my actual Snes. Over all this was a great hack and I'm glad I downloaded it. It was short but great. I rate it Five stars.
This hack may become the next MARIO in a few years. Enjoy it while it lasts, Ersanio. Because in a couple of years, there will be those people who just find out about this hack, and start making possible threads about how scary it is. Whilst, we will all post and just be annoyed how this is still a thing.
edited this to make mercurypenny look like an idiot
Yup,they're the EXACT screens I've got just after taking the mushroom. I think it was actually programmed to do this, since dying in the first level (the underwater ship level) will result in no "TIME UP" text, but will directly take you to the overworld. This will not result in the same red/white combination.
since when does a COPY of SMW in a emulator is anywhere near being piracy?????
Because it's a copy of the original game? It is modified but most code/gfx is still copyrighted by nintendo. Not quite sure what running it in an emulator would change since it's still copyrighted when you run it on something that isn't the intended console.
Leomon - I did this TWICE (the second time being a few minutes ago),and I got the same Red(or Crismon)/White overworld. btw,I'm using Snes9x v1.53 x64. So,possible ROM glitch or something else? It scared me the first time I've encountered it. I played this ROM 3-4 times, and always wondered what the mushroom is there for. I knew I was gonna have a bad time
Guys. Whatever you do,FOR ALL THAT'S HOLY,STAY AWAY FROM THAT EVIL MUSHROOM NEAR THE HACK'S END.
Seriously. I did it and I regret it. I got Mario to die (let me guess,it's a poisonous mushroom with its sprite changed? ),but what I got after was nowhere near even being pleasant,or okay in the first place. Instead of Time Up! I got "YOU'RE NEXT" scrawled in the same font as the level with the bleeding Bullet Bills. Then I got back to the overworld, but it was ALL blood red and white everywhere. I paused emulation, took a printscreen of Snes9x (I run the x64 version, since I have a x64-capable Pentium 4 CPU)and noped the heck out of S9x. Unless I'm told how the levels will look after achieveing this creepy overworld (or whatever it is),I'm not going back there. I had the presence of spirit,to actually savestate that in case I'll go back there,on Save State #6.
That thing scared the living stuff out of me. I'm nowhere near lying or trying to scare you,and I have a screenshot of the said thing. The next time I'll get myself over and play the hack again,I'll be sure to provide a AVI recording (UNTAMPERED WITH) and post it somewhere on Dailymotion. (since Nin10doh's anti-piracy (yea, sure.) team seems to block videos with SMW in it,for the reason that "You're running a copied game inside a emulator etc." (since when does a COPY of SMW in a emulator is anywhere near being piracy?????)
Now this is a serious dark shit (in the good way). I find this hack more dark than creppy/eriee, since I need a atmosphere in order to fell the chills running my skin, while this hack, instead, just throw the gore and uncomfortable stuff. Well, it´s based in a cliche creppypasta, so, anyways, great job.
A great recreation of the known creepypasta. While this, arguibly, doesn't have lot gameplay, the last part turns this into something actually fun to play too. I don't want to spoil anything, but I can say that, while it's a short one, it's totally worth a shot.
As only issue I found, sometimes, the SFX in the "last part" goes weird. No idea why.
