The 1st Annual Vanilla Level Design Contest: Collaboration Hack

Super Mario World Hacks → The 1st Annual Vanilla Level Design Contest: Collaboration Hack

Submission Details

Name: The 1st Annual Vanilla Level Design Contest: Collaboration Hack
Author: SMW Central
Demo: No
Hall of Fame: No
Length: 76 exit(s)
Type: Standard: Normal
Description: This a compilation of the levels from the 2008 Vanilla Level Design Contest (VLDC.) It contains 50 levels which you can play in any order you wish - all of them are open from the start.

Note that even when the game autosaves, it doesn't keep track of which levels have been cleared or which levels you collected the Yoshi coins, so you will have to do that yourself. The level credits file marks how many exits are in each level and which ones contain Yoshi Coins.

Hey, does anybody in here know where the key in Pleasant Hills is located? I swear I even managed to find the secret red and green pipe area but I still haven't found any key yet...

I counted 74 unique "exits". At least one was a few alternate paths throughout the level and another door leading to the same boss room. Inconsistent, other levels did this. I could not find a way to get a key in Frozen Cavern Castle either. It seems that if you pick the star run section last, there are munchers instead of spikes above an exit-enabled pipe that leads to the key but there doesn’t seem to be a silver p switch in the room and prior to this, only doors are used.

Actually, maybe it should be 73. I seem to remember a level where both goal taps were set to normal exit.

the gray/silver p-switch is revealed when hitting one of the gray cement/hard blocks just below the yellow colored exit-enabled pipe.

took me a long time to figure this out - need to be riding yoshi to stand on top of the spikes to hit one of those gray blocks from below. once the silver p-switch is found, activate it to change the munchers into coins and enter the small unblocked green pipe that leads to a bonus area where a key can be obtained in one of the many ? blocks.

It doesn't work.

some levels are still good like Mario ware and the second place level but others are horrible like the ice castle with the puzzle that barely works and the first place level has a bit of a mad palette and the last place one is just a bit awkward I guess but overall good hack.

Even VLDC9 will be grouped in the form of VLDC1, VLDC7 and VLDC8 as only hack?

Minor bug:
In Ninji Fortress, near the start of the level, there is a fryguy. If you wait for the eating block, the fryguy will rotate around himself:

Does this mean there will be compilation hacks for contests 2 through 6 as well?
