This piece of uberASM gives you an effect equivalent to the Vertical Layer 3 Smashers found in World 1's castle, but horizontal, the screen scrolling upwards.
To use, make your level vertical and only use the leftmost screen, no scrolling.
Insert the included layer 3 graphics files using the #lm{l3gfxby} Layer 3 GFX/Tilemap Bypass.
The settings for the tilemap are to start below the status bar and to be 512x512, as the filename says.
To change where the autoscroll stops, edit the define in the ASM.
It's important to note that you need to have walls on the sides of the level to hide the layer 3 spawn, just like you need to have a ceiling for the original version.
Other than that, any gotcha's are described in the ASM file, so it should be pretty easy to set up. Nice work.
