@NatsuFireball i agree with your opinion, when i testing my hack this last level and other ones after the desert world it gets very complicated, i will work in the dificult of my levels in my next hack thanks for the support bro.
On the one hand, we have great levels, a cool overworld and nice ASM hacks and bosses, which is very interesting.
On the other hand, I agree with JetWing34 : we have a very unfair last level whose difficulty is insane and out of purpose with the game's difficulty curve.
First half of the level is hard but quite fair.. But the second half... why ? You put all difficult enemies altogether : fire/ice/boomerang brothers, bullet bills who backtrack, stunning twomps, flames, kamek, 3-fireball-throwing sniffits, chomps, etc... all that with an autoscroller... that was to my opinion a very bad idea. This level becomes indeed very frustrating, wasting an incredible amount of lives to... go to Bowser.
Here, you think you are saved, you think you will have a vanilla fight which will balance the preceding difficulty... but it is not. First third of the fight is vanilla but the second part becomes very hard, with Bowser throwing fire snakes instead of big balls. In addition to that, in this second part Bowser takes 4 hits instead of 2, leaving you to deal at least 2 times with these fire snakes that you cannot defeat without a cape... and how can we keep a cape until this part ? You put just 2 power ups in all this very difficult second half... Finally, the third part is the same as Kaizo with Bowser doing very low jumps... I died for the 50th time here so I gave up, I dunno how many hits it will take, leaving me extremely frustrated, as I am a 100% player and invest myself a lot in every hack I play.
It is very a shame, as the remaining of the hack is very interesting. If only you put more powerups in the last level, this could have been OK. I found all 34 exits but couldn't finish the game due to this very unfair last level.
I give you 3 stars (6/10), thank you for the great work but I hope you will take all comments into account to make fairer last levels.
This hack should have had SS1, but now that I have SS2 completed, here are some of the pros and cons of the 34-exit hack.
- Some of the levels are fun to play, such as "Sand Fort" and "Phanto".
- Fire Birdo Tower has a beautifully designed vertical level gameplay and have a well-designed boss battle.
- Intro text has terrible grammar.
- Most of the levels in the hack contain flat and boring gameplay.
- The levels near the end were rushed. "Rushed" because of the quantity of difficulty came before the quality of level design and gameplay.
- Screen slowdowns due to the excessive amount of sprites.
- Repetitive power-ups.
- Can skip over the note block bridge in "Sand Piranhas".
I understand it's a sequel, but the lack of variety on power-ups, the nearly unfair difficulty near the end of this hack, and flat level design were part of the bottom line. To be honest, some levels were great in the hack, but it could be better if you make "quality comes before quantity" (in enemies and difficulty combined).
