Super Butt World 2

Super Mario World Hacks → Super Butt World 2

Submission Details

Name: Super Butt World 2
Author: yogui
Added:
Demo: No
Hall of Fame: No
Length: 30 exit(s)
Type: Kaizo: Intermediate
Description: After the critically acclaimed [citation needed] butt.smc, a sequel was made.

This time however, following the recent trends, this is not a joke hack but a kaizo-light game. Feature things commonly see in kaizo-light games such as vanilla aesthetic and unoriginal name containing the word Super and World.

Despite the name this is a legit kaizo hack. The levels features various gimmicks and well crafted level design. Maybe. Jump, die a lot and enjoy yourself.

This hack seems to be unbeatable on the Super NT (jailbreak method) and RetroArch with the BSnes core, however it works with the SD2SNES and RetroArch with the Snes9x core. The issue is that the grinder right at the start of 'R3X' is somehow supposed to appear back on screen and move right after it goes offscreen first, but it does not re-appear on the NT.

I feel like this hack didn't receive quite as much attention as it deserves. Yes, the first level doesn't exactly make a good first impression. Yes, there's some jank here and there. Yes, some of the level gimmicks were somewhat ill-conceived from the start. But this is still one of the most creative kaizo:light hacks out there, full of fresh, interesting ideas and is easily worth playing for that alone.

It's also worth mentioning, as Dode already has, that in the as of this writing most recent version (1.0.3) a lot of the really egregious elements from the original C3 release have been removed or modified. Having played the original release there were certainly a few parts that were, quite frankly, insufferable. But as it stands now I have no qualms recommending the hack.

So when I first played this on the previous version, I had the toughest time with a few of the sections. I admire how quickly you addressed the annoyances, and I can actually say it's rather fun now. The amount of work you put in is apparent, and while it does flirt with the border of excessive profanity and a few intentionally sloppy designs, the amount of good in the hack outweighs the questionable parts. Very creative and it successfully did what it was going for. Well done.
