Tip: Layer 3 backgrounds and tides disappear when you hit a message box, so plan your level around that. For example, you can add a sublevel without layer 3 at the start/midpoint, and include your message there.
Help Wakana finding her missing donations box in an entertaining quest! She will encounter lots of characters along the way, which will either help or obstacle her. Will she find her donations box?

Speaking as someone relatively new to playing SMW hacks, this one is pretty amazing. Lots of gimmicks that would have never been found in the original SMW, superb spritework, and in my opinion fantastic level design. The difficulty is fairly low as well, when it comes to SMW hacks I often have issues with the difficulty (For instance, the world 1 castle in Super Demo World TLC gives me trouble, and I also have trouble with the very first level in VLDC2014. N00b I know) but even the hardcore levels in Super Wakana Land are able to be passed with a bit of persistence. Definitely a hack that can be completed without save states.
My only real complaint is that sometimes the ground pound can be a bit too easy to trigger leading to some bad deaths, though that may be an issue with execution on the part of the player, and of course the hack is unfortunately not compatible with real hardware which is a shame because it feels like the sort of game you'd find in some yard sale that you've never heard of and when you pop it in it's just a hidden gem that never got the exposure it needed, so being able to pop it in a flashcart or even a repro cartridge would be nice for ultimate authenticity.
I never reviewed a hack before but I feel this one is particularly notable. Not only is this an excellent hack but it's also very refreshing for me as I continue to find what I consider to be a perfect SMW experience and this one is pretty up there.
There are a lot of interesting hacks with an emphasis on difficulty but I think this one brings it exceedingly well primarily because the challenge does not come at the expense of fun which is something it has in no small supply.
Wakana's controls are easy to get used to (aside for accidentally sliding by accident once in a while), the gimmicks are fun, the game has a lot of personality (the NSFW can feel a bit jarring for some) and as someone who feels music is important for a SMW hack, not only is the music very good but best of all, it's used very appropriately and it's wonderfully varied.
Super Wakana Land is a great combination of awesome and fun.
@kpe it never worked with ZSNES. If you want to play it sticking with the ZSNES UI, try ZMZ.
@Danielsonic87 this is the same version before the last rejection. Admins and hack team mod thought the last rejection was unfair, so they allowed me to resubmit (since it's in an acceptable state rn). This also explains the flash moderation.
I was definitely looking forward to this one for quite awhile, and I'll say, it was definitely worth it. The levels are quite fun and memorable, the new additions, while hard to adjust to at first, make the game feel quite unique, and overall, I had a lot of fun with the game. While it doesn't stray too far from how Super Mario World is structured, it strays enough to be in its own league. The graphics and music are also quite well implemented.
Overall, great hack! Definitely give it a try! Also, I won't spoiled one of the bosses, but let's just say that you'll be hungry for some melons after beating it. ;)
