So I've been making this game for awhile, and now that I've got 2 worlds (plus one level extra) finished I think it's time for a demo.
This hack utilizes LX5's custom power-ups in unique ways, challenging the player to overcome various obstacles designed with the power-ups in mind.
Other ASM-related things to take note of:
There's no reset doors. But do not worry, for you will never lose your power-ups! Instead, you have a health system replacing the lives system. So any time you gather a 1-up, you'll gain more health, allowing the player to take more hits. You take 2 damage every time an enemy hits you, and you have a maximum of 99 health. While this seems like a stretch, I wanted to keep the maximum health counter to its vanilla counterpart, and plus if you fall into lava or into a pit you go back to 5 health anyway.
There are 16 exits with 60 collectable BongoKitty coins (replacing the vanilla dragon coins). There is also a patch to save all the BongoKitty coins individually, so you'll never have to recollect them. In the future these will have value, but for now they're just for fun.
It was really fun to play. Except the Mario Land Flower level, I always hated that Power Up xD
But anyways, I found a graphic error in the Cloud Flower level. I would like to upload the exact point with an image but my internet is not working today ¬¬
But it is in the first two "mountains" of the level, right where is a Winged Goomba and a Chuck.
I think this was quite the nice little hack. I did enjoy your ideas and how the levels were built around each powerup. There is a lack of polish here and there, such as some random glitchy 1-up I found, and I do think the difficulty can be quite mean sometimes, but at the same time, there's a lot of opportunity for HP, so it's doable. Keep it up.
I plan on making 2 more worlds, hopefully before winter this year. Instead of 1 or 2 power-ups per level I'll have the player utilize several in fairly quick succession to overcome more challenging obstacles. I also plan on releasing the full set of power-up graphics I've used in this hack, and more if the patch continues to receive updates.
