My custom port of Slash Man's music from Mega Man 7 featured in GPW2. This is not a 1:1 port of the original music but rather my rendition of it. The track uses some but not all of the original game samples.
This track has a carefree island groove to it. Would work well in any level where the Athletic Theme would be the default.
I agree it sounds very muddy compared to the original.
Maybe it was intentional to fit gpw2 and mix well with the other songs.
But yeah.. song x song comparison, this doesnt sound as good as the original.
* i have a hard time calling this an arrangement. Theres barely anything different from the original (as in reharmonizations, new melodies, counterpoints, etc).. its mostly a remix if i would call it anything
Despite this having some issues, it's not worth a 1/5 rating imho. I heard way worse tracks that are more of a 1/5 worthy before this comes to mind.
And why not using original samples for arrangements? Is that some sort of a golden rule somewhere? Arrangement doesn't need to mean always "new instruments" imo. edit (he even doesn't mention it is an arrangement, just a "rendition" of the song: rendition =/= arrangements)
For what it is, it’s not a bad port. I prefer the original myself as well but this is also not a bad rendition of the song. It doesn't make me screech, my ears don't bleed from it, it’s not soulless, there is energy in it and so on...
1. The echo make this song sound incredibly muddy in comparison to the original.
2. It's hard to explain but some parts of this port feel really... empty, like they're missing things the original had that give it a fuller sound.
3. Honestly if you're gonna use some of the original samples from Slash Man why not just make a completely accurate port? If you're gonna make an arrangement, don't use any samples from the original.
