Description: Welcome to Bunbun World, my first SMW hack and one that took over a year of development! This Kaizo hack features 19 exits of platforming fun, aimed and playtested to the difficulty of Akogare Mario World, and hopefully explores SMW in new and interesting ways! It is 100% vanilla outside of modified bosses and custom music, and I really tried to push the creativity while making obstacles that were easy to read and fun to pull off. I think I succeeded, mostly due to the 22 people that were gracious enough to help playtest levels along the way and fine-tune this project!

This hack features:
- vanilla Kaizo platforming with underused assets, such as Dino Rhinos, falling tides, Lakitus, and nets
- custom hand-designed palettes in every level
- custom music throughout the hack, emphasizing sound design and underused SMWC ports
- quality-of-life patches, including quick retry, a slimmed-down HUD, and more!
- a small reward for 100%ing the game
- a lot of love, polish, and playtesting on various hardware :)

This hack does not feature:

- a single shell jump, as a self-imposed restriction to come up with other things to do
- trolly Kaizo blocks, softlocks, or unfair Map16 manipulations

This project was heavily inspired by Grand Poo Worlds 1 and 2, Akogare Mario World, Invictus, Dram World, Quickie Worlds 1 and 2, Super Gracie World, Hark Bros, Storks, Search for Salmon, Claustrophobia, JUMP and JUMP 1/2, Keytastrophe, and all of the other various SMW hacks from this community that I've watched and loved over the years. Dedicated to my fiancee, who pushed me to finally try my hand at designing and supported me through the full development process! This project started as an art project to see if I could make a level that my fiancee liked looking at and exploded into what it is today.

Very cute hack! Some levels took me longer than others (and triggered me more than others), but it was all very doable. All considered, I loved playing this game

This is a fun hack, there were a few tricks and setups I wasn't familiar with, had to watch some videos to unlock the secrets and figure out some of the tricks. But overall very well made for a first hack, definitely unique in its own way.

If there was a classic kaizo games 2019 edition I feel like this hack would certainly be in it. Keep up the good work sio,

5/5

I decided to give this a proper shot before delving into Bunbun 2, and I am very glad I did. The setups were unique and engaging, without being too difficult to read, and the aesthetics throughout the hack were amazing! Easy 5/5 from me.

Just finished this in preparation of Bunbun 2. I have to say this was an excellent hack. A good intermediate hack to play when just getting started into Kaizo.

Thanks a TON for this Sio! One of my Fav's along with Akogare. You shot for that 'Ako' difficulty and hit it on the head. Great intuitive level design, great palletes, great platforming. A great addition to the community! 5-er

Excellent beginner hack with lots of great ideas & obstacles as well as a beautiful overworld. As mentioned before, Bowser was a bit janky imo too but was ok. 5 Stars anyways! gj Sio

This hack can be summed up as follows: Bun Bun is fun fun.

Lots of great levels, the colors are awesome, and overall an enjoyable experience. The flow was great, and there were tons of creative ideas. Plus the credits shoutout is always a plus :D

While I wouldn't say there are places that are extremely tight, it was a little tricky at times to figure out how quickly or slowly to go in order for things to spawn correctly - sometimes the camera wouldn't cooperate with me (like in Mt. Ninji), and there was an instance where a dolphin was supposed to appear but regularly wouldn't after spinning on a Rip Van Fish (I very well could have been doing something wrong).

I'm excited for Bun Bun 2, as I hope it both extends on what is in the original and explores new ideas. Great job!

Very enjoyable hack, felt very different to other hacks I've played and I love the use of some sprites that I haven't seen much use of in kaizo, that combined with fun level designs and well thought out palettes/music should be enough for anyone to try this out

If this is really your first hack you made, you did a really good job on that. This hack was very fun and enjoyable to play and there was not a single Level, that I didn't like.

But there some small things I like to mention:
-Sometimes there was a possibility to cheese some Sprites through sections which leaded to funny glitched graphics.
-The Munchers in "Dizzy Drifting" are very bad at killing you!
-I sometimes wished for an OW-event when I finished a Level.
-Some jumps on platforms or sprites could be skipped.

All this things above I pointed out on my playthrough. If you want to fix these things in a future update, please take a look at:

Anyway you did a very good job at this. Take 5 Stars :)

Phenomenal hack. I’ve been watching sio make this for almost a year and he didn’t let us down. It has a unique platforming style that many kaizo fail to do well. My only gripe is some of the aesthetics are a bit distracting, but that doesn’t take away from the stellar gameplay

Fun hack that feels different than most kaizos I've been playing recently. Would definitely recommend if you are into kaizo. Bowser's 2nd phase was a bit jank... and those wiggler jumps were kind of confusing. Other than those things I enjoyed it immensely!

I loved everything about this hack, so unique and fresh. But then i came to bowser and felt like i got sick just ugh lol. I cant stand his movement so wasnt able to completely beat it. Still anything else was great <3
