Tip: When you're about to release your hack, make a patch first, patch it to a clean ROM, and then test that. This way, you are testing both the hack AND the patch.

File Name: A Super Mario World Rom Hack
Authors: Ralshi02
Demo: Yes
Featured: No
Length: 7 exit(s)
Type: Standard: Hard

I’m not going to finish this hack, it takes me too long to do, the only thing I’m going to do for the next (and last) demo is to add 5 additional levels that could have been in other worlds (they will all be located in the star world). So for now you can only play at first world levels.

Accepted as "Hard" difficulty predominantly because the first level in the hack (9-3) is too hard for "Normal." The world 1 castle is also probably too hard for "Normal."

None of the tags in the submission were valid hack tags (see here for a list of valid tags). A user pointed out the fact that you were using invalid tags but you discarded their comment out of hand. Please be more receptive to user feedback in general.

Things I'd like to see fixed in the next version:

- Giving the player five lives isn't enough to beat the first level (9-3) and most players will get game-overs while trying to beat it.
- It is confusing that this does not hurt the player, because things that look a lot like it do hurt the player.
- Is there a good reason for the RPG-style overworld movement? I just found it to be confusing and time-consuming.
- There is graphical glitching in level 1-3.
- Having to sit through the cannon countdown every time at the beginning of level 1-B is very frustrating.

Rom hack doe's not work. after patching the rom I am able to load the rom and I got as far as the title screen and when selecting a file and selecting either mario or luigi after that I am stuck in a black screen, could it be because of the type of smw rom I am using? I am using Super Mario World.sfc (USA) from vimm's Lair. Idk if that matters or not cause I always use this rom for all my rom hack patches and the all work fine except this rom hack. Can't rate it if I can't play it. And considering you're not going to finish the hack I would suggest removing it from the site all together.

Amazing work! It's a great hack, the music, the sarcasm in the text boxes, the scenery and the inspiration in new super mario bros games are nice. I love how you made the hack look lazy at first, but after the first cutscene we see the game really starting. Custom power ups are also interesting (Wow, Kirby hammer power up, I've never seen it in another hack!) But I think sometimes the difficulty is unfair, like buzzy bettles falling from places you can't predict, platforms that disappear and you You have to kill yourself. There are almost no mushrooms in the levels, which makes it very difficult. If you hurting, you lose ALL your coins, so you have to make a perfect run to buy something from the Yoshi store (which is impossible in the second part of the cavern level). But still a good hack, don't give up, we want to see this hack until the end #tb{:DD}!

Ok, actually you did not even play the game it looks like.

Also, that first cave level occasionally has sprite glitches, at least when I'm playing it on a RetroDuo. It is a clone, so it just comes close to real hardware.
Yeah it's the TNT sprite that is causing that. I don't know how to fix this for the moment.

I was surprised that you could skip the intro. More hacks should have this patch installed.

I'm glad you can look up and down. I still hate having to repeat this over and over again, but stop applying HDMA gradients to the foreground. I don't care if it looks cool, because it affects the gameplay as visual feedback important to it such as enemies or what's on the ground can be hidden behind the gradient, which is just annoying for the player. If you want the atmosphere, apply it to the background. Don't have it intrude onto the gameplay, please.

Also, some tiles that look like they're solid aren't. The bones that are in front of the sprites are an example of this, as well as the spikes in the caves. As a matter of fact, foreground obstructions are not a good idea for the same reason HDMA gradients in the foreground is not a good idea.

I also don't really like the melee hammer powerup. It doesn't have a good enough range, you can't attack while jumping, you can't jump while attacking, I just don't think it works here.

the first tag "custcene" is wrong. i think its worth pointing out for people who look for specific tags. also idk if "fatyoshi" is also a typo or not.

also personal opinion if you already say you wont finish this hack as its too much work, maybe change your intended way. try to make your "last demo" just the final version. shorten the story or whatever you have planed and adjust it.

I've been playing your hack, and I say I was surprised by the innovation !! Don't give up, it's a fantastic job, good things take time. The most I know of SMW Hack is to insert and convert brr sounds.
