In any case I'll probably have to reconvert the sample if it's spazzing.
SNES9x 1.60.
Sample popping usually occurs if the samples's waveform clips through the peak, and it translates a weird cracking sound effect,
which is neither emulated on BRR Player nor SPCPlay.
In the case of "909 snare 1.brr", there are two waveform offsets at the very bottom of the spectrum,
thus creating popping as the sample can't collide with offsets outside of it's limiter.

What emulator are you using?

No, you can't, in the SPC player I'm using (SPC700) playing the sample doesn't produce any pops whatsoever. It only produces pops in game.
Weird. Can you reproduce this with an spc in a certain player?
Seriously though, this pack is great, i've already used some of the samples here in my Spelunky ports, and I plan to use them more in the future.
