Super Mario World Hacks - JAVH 2
File Name: JAVH 2
Added:
Version History: View
Authors: niko
Demo: Yes
Featured: No
Length: 41 exit(s)
Type: Standard: Very Hard
Description: [JAVH = Just Another Vanilla Hack]

This new Version Contains:

-Minor Fixes
-More Levels
-Little bit improved Overworld

In JAVH 2, you face challenging level after challenging level. Every level follows a theme, no level is like the other. It's hard, but fair. Levels are almost all the same length, which is a bit longer than standard SMW-levels. Also, i wrote levels quite often now... levels.
If you find any jank, glitch, bug, or other insects, please let me know.

any feedback is also pretty nice.

(This hack is 100% Vanilla, but it has custom music, a ton of custom music. No Map 16 edits, no pallete edits.)

In vanilla, you can have a 1-up checkpoint in addition to a regular checkpoint.

Maybe more powerups in castles tho.

If you are unable to place checkpoints before bossfights, then just move the checkpoint in the castle level so that you get it right before each boss fight.

Making the player repeat an entire level on top of learning a boss fight is not a genuine challenge, it's a form of fake difficulty that is unenjoyable and frustrating.

While there are section you need fast reflexes because they are 3-4 enemies coming towards you, most of the challenge is made by placing some enemies but then placing them a bit evil (imo at least)

This hack is not designed to rush through, its designed to test your skill and bring you to your limits, but i can still go through my levels pretty Quick, With some stops here and there.

Thanks alot for your feedback tho, maybe i even will fix some of the more enemy spammy screens

No problem. Definitely also put checkpoints before boss fights as well.

One thing you can consider for enemy placement is to instead of creating a "bullet hell" of enemies to dodge, place less enemies but in more imaginative ways.

Good hack but has several problems:

-- PUT CHECKPOINTS BEFORE BOSS FIGHTS! I don't see why this is so hard to understand and why so many creators fail to do this. Boss fights are unenjoyable if you have to complete the 2nd half of the level everytime you lose.
-- Level design discourages moving quickly, which is annoying. Enemy placements punish you if you move as fast as possible.
-- Level design is a bit unimaginative and veers towards enemy spam rather than fun and unique platforming. Definitely not the worst I've seen of this, but is still a factor.
-- Introduce some sort of retry system or life farm for less experienced players. Makes it less tedious by removing the lengthy game over screen and animation.
-- Timer should be extended for some levels. On many occasions I go through a level quickly but only have 50 seconds or so left when I finish. A timer should never be tight unless the that is the theme of the level.

This is actually one of the better-designed vanilla hacks I've played recently and I think you should give it a more interesting name to encourage more people to play it.

I still think it could use a life farm.
