The transition to levels, title screen, and maps are very creative in my opinion. Same with the levels, the reusing of SMAS sprites of enemies, music, and graphics. This, i can say, it's the ONLY good thing from this ROM Hack.
But... the FUCKING... FUCKING HELLISH DIFFICULTY OF THIS GAME... is what it makes it sooooooooo... bad. It's like playing Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2. Even this ROM Hack's difficulty can be compared with "The Lost Levels".
The level that i FUCKING hate, is in my opinion, the Desert Castle and its Boss. Oh my god, i died, but DIED too many times in that level, because of the stupid difficulty of this ROM Hack.
The Pre-Castle level of Snowy Pursuit, it's literally the hardest level of the game. In some point of it, the camera does that thingie from Sonic games like... moving alone, idk how is the thing called. But the camera is... fast. It's fast, and there's an chance you will not only get anxiety, but you will make one thousand sixty-four GAME OVERS. Yeah, that makes matters worse. This game wants you dead. It will do the possible that you get too many GAME OVERS.
Mario's sprites, in my opinion, are WEIRD. VERY Weird. It doesn't have the same charm of the other sprites. It feels like he's definitely NOT Mario. Very Strange.
This game is literally the ultimate sequel to the 1986 "Lost Levels" game. Because of its impossible levels. SERIOUSLY, THE FIRST LEVELS ARE FUCKING HARD? SERIOUSLY????
"Lost Levels" for me, it's uncanonized, because of its Dark Souls-alike gameplay style (in terms of difficulty), and because of REPLYING the entire SMB-style. It could be an standalone game in the Mario franchise that occours on the same universe but NOT canon into it. So, "Super Mario Another Retro" is literally "Lost Levels 2".
The World 7 Boss, an bare-bones mockery of Iggy Koopa, it's very simple to be on the antepenultimate world. To make matters worse, this boss has BUGS. Just... Bugs. An terrible rom hack in my opinion.
1/10. Cute thingies on the game, while the gameplay is TOO hard, impossible, and almost possible to beat, which sadly won't happen. Done, i've already hammered the final nails into the grave where "Super Mario Another Retro" belongs.
Your opinion would be other, and i'll respect it.
3/5
Also, the world 7 boss fight has issues in my opinion. The instant the boss flips upside down, you can't land on him, or you'll get hurt, even if you're spin jumping, and the upside-down flip can happen instantly without warning. You also get hurt if you land on him while he's in his spinning shell right after landing a successful stomp, again, even if you're spin jumping.
EDIT: Just finished the hack, and found one more "major" issue. When you beat the final boss and rescue Peach, she gives the message for when you first find Yoshi in the vanilla game. Whoopsie!
In the "game over" screen this appears:
if you go to the star road you will find a level from sonic
and the song of the star road is despacito
so much fun in this rom hack

I was about to report that specific problem with a screenshot of the problem but was busy in the past several days
anyway here is the pic of the "vanilla" Yoshi message when rescuing Peach (this pic will stay posted and will be removed after 1 month):

While playing 2 player, during Luigi's turn, the points shown at the top of the screen are actually still Mario's. I noticed this while watching my partner play and noticing that their score wasn't changing, and then when it was my turn, it turned out it was my score. So, Luigi's score seems to never be shown at all.
Also, after getting the "hurry up" warning for dropping below 100 seconds, the music tempo remained fast upon returning to the map, and persisted into later levels, until a boss was defeated, at which point the tempo finally returned to normal. EDIT: Turns out Start+Selecting out of a cleared level also resets the tempo.
Like I said, though, these are minor and don't actually interfere with gameplay, but I figured they were worth mentioning anyway.
- The vertical free-scroll camera made it harder to focus because Mario's surroundings moved around so much. It also made a lot of jumps blind that otherwise would not be.
- There was a lot of lag. It's unfortunate that it wasn't fixed after it was mentioned during both previous moderations of this hack.
- This softlock was not fixed. I fixed it by adding a ceiling.
- The hitbox for these crushers is several pixels wider than the spikes, which is particularly bad because the crusher spikes in vanilla Super Mario World don't hurt you.
- The fact that this hurts you but these do not is visually confusing.
ther are more bugs whatch second screenshot
and another glitch found:
Waiting for the next hack. 👍
