SMW Graphics - Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shougun Magginesu - Goofy Woods Show random
File Name: Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shougun Magginesu - Goofy Woods
Authors: Anorakun
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground
Description: The beautiful graphics of forest used in various levels of Ganbare Goemon 2, from Super Famicom. The only thing I didn't include was the slopes, since they took too much space of the GFX. You can use both, or only the background or foreground. Perfect for forest levels.

The background uses palette 2 and 3. BG2 and BG3 slots.
The foreground uses palette 4 and 5. BG1 and FG3 slots, so be aware, because it's not compatible with vanilla backgrounds.

Credit would be great, but is optional.

This is an extremely high-quality forest FG/BG set. Textures on tree leaves, bark, tops of the stumps, the rocky ground, and grass both near and far are exceptionally detailed, and its default palette comes across as quiet and mysterious. The lighting is impressive, though the stump appears to have a different light source from the other assets - it's far from a deal-breaker. This set lacks any slopes, but if you don't need slopes in your level, then this is one of the best semi-realistic non-3D-rendered forest sets you will find. Excellent rip.

I quickly flattened out the map16 on this one.

Despite it breaking the palette guidelines, I'm letting it through because I think it's a better option than requiring a sprite status bar patch. If you're fine destroying one (or two) of your layer 3 rows, you can just remap the background to free up the space yourself.

This is a good choice for ripping though. imo, the site is kinda lacking in these rocky/hilly forests and the graphics are quite pretty.
