The Essence Star...it was sent to Mario's realm from the heavens above with one purpose: to benefit the world through the actions of kind people. However, if it falls into the hands of evil, the complete opposite will occur. What fate will result when the likes of Golden Yoshi and Kamek all want to get their hands on the sacred star?
Find out all of this and more...in SMW2+3: The Essence Star.
As of 22 Nov 2020, this no longer crashes in accurate emulators.
@erpster2: Thanks. I will try to find where these specific songs are in hex and figure out what is still wrong with them, but I cannot promise anything any time soon.
it's nice that this version works in accurate snes emulators but the music problems are not 100% fixed.
some the BG musics in the final Celestial Tower level produce static or crackling sounds, especially after entering the door where Chuck Quizmo the quizmaster resides
Nice, this was one of my first experiences with a SMW hack when I first started, its a nice and fun hack good for people that would like a new take on SMW, and it is not too hard so its a nice game for casuals.
I'm glad to see this here as more people will now be able to experience this masterpiece.
Also, I agree with Counterfeit the world building and npcs makes this hack more alive.
Permission received from Golden Yoshi to submit an update that repairs the hack's audio. This should now work in accurate emulators. Tested with snes9x-gtk v1.60. All echoes have been removed. A few levels experience minor flickering at the top of the screen due to some dynamic sprites.
This hack's challenge level is well-accessible for those familiar with regular SMW. While it starts casual and breezy, it quickly throws adventurous twists your way. Action and variety grace this piece. It uses NPCs to make this world come alive, and they should be paid attention to as you will need to meet key people to make forward progress. This remains one of the best examples of worldbuilding in a SMW hack. In a word: timeless.
