| Description: | After what feels like way too long, I am finally releasing my first kaizo hack, The United States of Mario. As an on-again/off-again project for the last two and a half years or so, this 26-exit vanilla kaizo hack will take you and Mario on a journey throughout the United States. From the manual: "After the events of Super Mario World, Mario heads back to his apartment in Brooklyn. Once he arrives back home, he realizes that he hasn't really explored the rest of New York or the United States at all. So, he packs his bags, says goodbye to Yoshi, Peach, and Luigi, and embarks on a road trip that takes him across the country and back again. What will he find? What cities will he visit? Will he be able to explore internationally? Don't you need a passport for that? There's only one way to find out :)" USM is a completely vanilla kaizo hack, with the exceptions of the usual quality of life patches (infinite lives, fast retry, rope-glitch fix, etc.) Very special thanks to Darkanine - the testing notes and suggestions made this hack something that feels like an enormous achievement, especially with this being my first attempt at SMW level design. (If it makes Twitch chat and streamers laugh, it's still invisible.) - Balanced audio throughout - Toned down unfairness - Added some secrets in pipes that normally didn't go anywhere :) - Specific level patch notes are provided in the manual. |

Based on what I've seen in various streams, I'm currently working on v1.04 to fix obstacles and tidy things up, so I recommend waiting until the new version is uploaded if you want to see the new changes and play the hack. v1.03 is absolutely playable, but v1.04 will hopefully address the common issues folks ran into.
Thank you so much for checking out the hack, and I'm really happy you enjoyed it! I definitely drew plenty of influence from classic kaizo hacks, so I'm glad that the feeling of those games came through.
Thank you for the kind words! I had removed earlier versions of the hack for a variety of reasons, but I'm hoping that folks enjoy the current version as much as I do.
