Description: Welcome to Super Special World!

Mario has happened upon a strange new area located within what seems to be a continuation of the mysterious Special Zone. Romp through a variety of stage themes, including some atypical of the original, and discover all that Super Special World has in store.

If you enjoy a rather classic SMW experience, you're in for a treat - This hack is designed to feel like an extension of the original game (with embellishments).

Additional Notes:
- Dragon Coins are scattered about the many stages, with the exception of most fortress / castle, switch palace, and "save spot" stages
- Info Boxes tend to offer hints toward solving puzzles and finding secrets laid about the world
- All GFX are original to SMW, with visual changes being purely palette / map16 edits through Lunar Magic)

Patched Updates (as of v01):
- Corrected various midway point issues
- Fixed cutoff found in a handful of levels
- Corrected some subtle cosmetic issues

Thanking our awesome community for all of the support and feedback!

I've beaten this hack twice, and I just wanna say it's probably my favorite vanilla hack on the site.
I like the huge variety of levels, creative map16, and generally fun levels. Can't wait for more from you. 👍

Have you ever wanted a Special World much larger than the original's eight levels? This hack is your definite choice. Or do you just want a hack that feels like a continuation of the original with similar level design? This hack is also your definite choice.

As soon as I started playing this, I knew I was going to have a lot of fun with it, and I wasn't wrong. Many hacks I've played in the past failed to capture the true sequel aspect and instead were full of mediocrity. However, a select few are successful in capturing the true essence of what a sequel to Super Mario World might have looked like. This hack is definitely one of the latter.

The level design is excellent and does capture that "sequel" vibe very, very well. The castle/fortress levels in particular were absolutely fantastic and I enjoyed nearly all of them. Palettes were also very nicely done, particularly two levels which had a bluish or purplish gradient to them. Nice job on that! The difficulty seemed to be a steady Hard for the most part.

I did notice some problems though, such as sprite memory issues, minor cutoff, and random slowdown in some levels. One early level had a Dragon Coin in a subscreen boundary, and Styx and Stones had ON/OFF blocks with glitched graphics upon hitting them.

There were levels that had 1-UP Mushrooms that were a tad too easy to collect. One early ghost house level comes to mind. However, it's possible that to compensate for the difficulty of this hack, many opportunities to earn lives were created, so this is actually quite understandable. Another thing is that some levels need more time. There were many levels in which I reached the goal with less than one hundred seconds on the timer. I'd be exploring the level and suddenly hear the timer warning me to hurry up and I had to quicken my pace to reach the goal point without running out of time.

All in all, it's a great hack in which its problems mentioned above don't really bring the hack down as much.

#lm{pal}#lm{pal}#lm{pal}#lm{pal}#lm{pal}/5! This is true level design at its finest! Since Stellar is one of the level names and clearly defines this hack as a whole, I myself can definitely say this hack is stellar! #smw{:peace:}

Nice, I really like vanilla hacks so thanks for this and, can you make a sequel?

Many thanks!
I have plans to put out a "spiritual sequel" to this hack, though nothing concrete at this time.

Goddamn this was a good time.

Wonderful traditional hack, especially the colors. I have a problem, where do I find the "world switch" that I need in Lunar lift-off level?

This was fun and challenging. A lot of varied and interesting vanilla level design. A couple of levels were surprisingly difficult for Standard: Hard ("Washed out" and the "Red-End Ruin" secret exit come to mind), primarily because they were so long.

With the permission of the author, I've applied this patch to fix the game crashing if the player scrolls into the autoscroller in "Event Horizon," and these two patches to correctly display the number of exits beyond 96.

Some things I found:

- You can skip the second half of "103 Asylum Dr." by getting the checkpoint then using the cape to fly over the walls to the goal. There's an invisible ceiling preventing you from doing this in the first half, but not the second half.
- You can skip multiple rooms in "Washed out" by swimming under this section. You can probably also fly over with cape or blue Yoshi (I forget if there's one in the hack), though I have not tried.
- In "Notable," this platform despawned when I was going to the left to get the key. I was still able to get over because I had a cape. It respawned on the way back.
- The Bob-omb explosions in "Event Horizon" are hard to see and therefore hard to dodge.
- In "Kooky Mountain," there are some blocks on the bottom which were probably left over from building the level. You can see them if you die above them.

I love how it's a seemingly linear-like map until you start to get secret exits and such..... then it gets freaking..... GNARLY! But anyway, i still love this hack

Found a bug in Far-Out.

Dying after getting the midway checkpoint and restarting causes Mario to be launched from a "cannon" just under the checkpoint and die immediately. Level becomes incompleteable if the checkpoint is saved.

A very original and nice vanilla hack.
You've made some beautiful designs with limited tiles and even a lot of palette sets are vanilla.
I loved the atmosphere of this hack and it is one of the standard hacks that I play without getting bored.
I hope new versions are made.

Thank you for playing, and for your encouraging feedback!
I love to create an atmospheric experience, and will continue to hone my skills as a creator to deliver quality content.

The first 60-70 exits feel like a standard:easy hack and are not very interesting. Some of them were so inspired by the original SMW that they felt blatant-edit-ish. For example Damascus Hall looks like Larry's castle from SMW...

I'd like to thank you for playing, and for taking the time to share your feedback!

To offer some insight, this hack is designed with beginner players in mind, with a difficulty setting which I feel best describes the average of all levels' difficulty curve. All stages are designed from scratch, completely by hand, and are often heavily inspired by the original game's style of level design.

The checkpoint in Totally Rex'd doesn't work (some other levels may have the same issue, but I first tried many of them so idk).

Thank you for making note of this - I'm committed to correcting any issues discovered within the hack, and will surely update the patch with any corrections deemed necessary such as this.

The exit counter caps at 96, so I'm not even sure I actually found 107 exits. Feels like I found a bit less than that.

While I know the vanilla counter does not display a total beyond the original 96, I can guarantee there are 107 exits. You never know where a secret exit might lead to...

I'm disappointed to hear this experience was not for you, though I thank you again for your contribution!

Then the levels start to get annoying since they are longer and involve some annoying item babysitting (or annoying similar things like starting in the middle of a room, going to the very left to get the key and getting back to the very right to find the keyhole).
Some levels are too long and/or have terrible checkpoint placements. Some actually reminded me of Super Mario Infinity, and it's NOT a good thing.

Other issues :

- The checkpoint in Totally Rex'd doesn't work (some other levels may have the same issue, but I first tried many of them so idk).
-The exit counter caps at 96, so I'm not even sure I actually found 107 exits. Feels like I found a bit less than that.

If the point was to create a hack that looks like an average 2006 hack, then it was successfully done. I would not recommend playing this unless you like this kind of hack...

Was unexpectedly surprised by this. The OW isn't to my taste and some graphical choices hurt my eyes, but the level design itself is fairly engaging and semi-nostalgic. While being a massive undertaking, I think there will be a niche that will greatly enjoy this. I know I sure did.

Thank you for playing, and for your feedback!
My aim is to bring a 'classic with a twist' experience in delivering this hack to the community. Here's to hoping that you all enjoy playing my hack as much as I enjoyed creating it #tb{^V^}

Glad that you ask! This hack contains only the original SMW soundtrack for the sake of the nostalgia factor, and to emphasize an authentic classic SMW feel.
