It is a game. You can play it. After about a year and a half of meticulously placing and removing munchers (that probably no one will appreciate), I've finally decided enough is enough. So here we are.
Mario and Luigi Go to White Castle is a 1-exit hack in which you follow Mario through his long-winded endeavor to secure his White Castle order. Depending on semantics, there are about 16 unique levels and 1 White Castle, all of which are linearly connected to each other. Also featured in this hack are custom graphics, sprites, music, and some minor ASM.
Each level is probably intermediate in difficulty, with obstacles focused on fairness over tightness wherever possible. If you so choose, you can also play each level individually or revisit a level as Luigi by selecting a 2-player game. There is also a secret. It has no impact on the game at all. It's only there for you to enjoy. If that's what you're into, I can't stop you.
At this point, this game is a huge tangled spaghetti mess of patches and graphics that I don't really want to touch anymore in fear of it breaking. All I can hope for is that those who choose to play it enjoy it and that it turns out exactly as I intended it to be (lol). So thank you if you choose to play it, and especially thank you to the coders, creators, and testers that helped me to make this tangled spaghetti mess. Creating this hack helped to distract me through some tough times, so I hope that, by sharing it with the world, I can possibly help to distract others going through tough times, if even for an hour.
I really enjoyed this one. I found it about a 7.5/10, nice presentation and neat little levels that fit my attention span.
But then as I got to White Castle it was all 9/10 from there. It really felt like an epic conclusion.
I really liked the checkpoint system in the castle (and I really appreciate it ending for the cape parts).
Thank you such a bunch for this excellent experience!
As a beginner I really ejoyed the challange (ca 8h of laughter and cursing) and am thankfull for fair level design.
I learned so much, next to patience....
Much like my beloved White Castle, this hack is packed with little morsels of goodness. Very creative hack with lots of fair, but challenging little levels. Love the concept and I hope to see more like this.
