To hardware players who want to practice without an emulator: since there is no support for savestates on SA-1 yet, Kevin created a patch with built-in savestates! You can get the most recent version of it here (last update: January 30, 2022), and find a version log here.
Some content may be in C3 threads as well, as exemplified by Amper.
Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this hack. I can only hope we see another project like this from JUMP team because this is one of my all time favorites.
A bad time overall. The hardest levels weren't the issue per se. I liked lolyoshi's piranha plant gauntlet, for instance, and wyatt's lava lotuses were fine.
But much of the midgame felt like notebook sketches that perhaps one day could be refined into actual playable levels (screenshot #1 shows a good example, morsel's level is another). Also, the creators double down on awkward gimmicks involving broken or counterintuitive controls, some of which we've seen in previous JUMP hacks while others are new horrors. My love for SMW derives mainly from its excellent controls, so I don't understand the urge to make or play this kind of stage.
By the end, I felt worn down and relieved to see the credits. The last string of levels were fine but quite hard, and the final level itself continues a bad trend of ridiculously overlong closers. There are something like 15 required sections, some of which must be completed consecutively without checkpoints. One of the sections, in an apparent "fuck you" to the player, is a kaizo remake of a level from JUMP that I'm pretty sure everyone hates (I sure do anyway). I want SMW hackers to know it's okay to make a final level that's two good sections and a boss. No one will be disappointed; it's actually better.
So yeah, didn't have much fun with this. Cool Frank Crumit song though.
also how i make a level for next hac?
