I am surprised this image is actually a 2bpp conversion of a 4bpp background. The only telling sign that it's originally 4bpp image is the lighting of the front pillars which has got notably clear borders if only because of the contrast. Good job!

Thanks! All I needed here was attention to color detail and good judgment. It wasn't super hard. I forgot to mention though that this isn't a 100% rip (for instance, the layout isn't even the same as the original and the curtains are missing), but it was made for a personal hack I'm still working on and later I thought I should share it.

I should note that the BG can be used alongside the vanilla status bar if you cover the rows where the status bar cuts off the BG with suitable tiles and the destination for the BG is set to 'Under Status Bar' in the 'Layer 3 GFX Bypass' dialog.

Besides the screenshot being half a lie (clouds are fixed for it, but they share a color with the layer 3 so they look bad in the sample level), excellent layer 3 conversion, which is what it matters for this submission. As always with fullscreen layer 3, remember to use the sprite status bar or similar asm workarrounds.
