Clawgrip

SMW Sprites → Clawgrip

Submission Details

Name: Clawgrip
Author: Sonikku
Added:
Tool: PIXI
Type: Standard
Dynamic: No
Disassembly: No
Includes GFX: Yes
Description: Clawgrip from SMB2.

Has numerous capabilities as far as customization goes; how fast it moves or throws rocks, how many times it goes back and forth or how many rocks it throws, as well as the ability for it to have multiple phases.

The code is loosely based on the SMB2 code itself but then heavily adapted, so the default pattern of the thrown rocks is almost identical and as such the same arena layout can be utilized.

Released as part of C3 2022.

not sure what i'm doing wrong here, but this sprite just throws rocks at the ground and kills himself. Also messed with the auto retry graphics.

Fixed sample level to not include an unreferenced ExGFX file, renamed included ExGFX to follow GFX section rules for easier insertion, fixed setting where star vulnerability would check for bit 4 instead of 3 (that's bits 5 and 4 for non-ASMers), added lorom, sa-1 and enemy tags.

Overall, Clawgrip works and fights quite similar to how he does in SMB2. However, one noticeable bug I noticed: Allowing Clawgrip to be killed by a star won't play a sound should he get killed.
As a fun fact, a rock can be repeatedly smuck with a cape and they still hurt Clawgrip but let's call this as a feature, not a bug.

Awesome! Now I hope all of the SMB2 bosses are adapted this way. Would be more interesting than the usual thwomp boss.

Not sure if it's just me, but if Clawgrip's rock happens to break inside a wall or something while in Yoshi's tongue and you spit it out, the rock will be a glitched sprite that can't be carried. If this glitched sprite comes in contact with another rock, it'll crash the game. For now, a simple workaround is to uncheck the 'Don't get stuck in walls' bit in the rock's JSON file.
