Description: | Baron of Shell is a hack that I've had in the works for almost two years. It is my take on a classic shell hack, but it includes more traditional platforming elements than today's shell hacks. It uses traditional shell physics. There is a practice / tutorial path that provides insight into some of the more esoteric item abuse setups. My goal with this hack was to show how diverse shell levels can be, and to push the narrative on item abuse in Super Mario World. Although there are a lot of Uberasm patches and custom sprites at work, the hack at its core is vanilla and vanilla inspired. --- Disclaimer (1) --- This hack is not made for everyone. There are a lot of people who will hate this hack; it was not made for them. It was made for the players who love shells and item abuse. --- Disclaimer (2) --- This hack has can cause repetitive strain injury if you are not careful. Please take periodic breaks so you don't hurt yourself. --- Disclaimer (3) This hack uses Uberasm that requires BOTH L & R to be used. If you use a nontraditional joystick or remap your buttons, this may be a problem for you. --- Disclaimer (4) Have fun :) Updates in 1.1: - Removed a lot of unnecessary tightness. - Added a room in the tutorial for a specific setup. - Made some levels more consistent for speedrunners. - Fixed some cheese in Ultra Shell. - Replaced the last section in Bloodlust with a section that is less hard on the hands. - Revamped Pit of Abaddon to be much less blind and casual playthrough friendly. - Added some more people to the credits that I had missed. - Various tweaks were made from feedback from the community. I'd like to thank everyone that played through 1.0 and gave their feedback! You have helped this become a better romhack! Updates in 1.2: - Removed the cheese in the second section of Ultra Shell - Patched the yellow koopa framerule - Fixed a bug in the disco spiny that was preventing it from working on Mister and bsnes - Fixed the port in Uzumaki - Small tweaks in various levels |

One fateful day, while Mario was traversing the forest on his trusty steed, he stumbled upon a clearing bathed in an ethereal glow. In the center stood a colossal turtle, its shell shimmering with an iridescent light. The creature's eyes, wise and ancient, met Mario's gaze, and an unspoken challenge hung in the air.
Undeterred by the turtle's imposing presence, Mario dismounted his steed and drew his sword, its blade gleaming ominously under the dappled sunlight. The turtle, unfazed by the Baron's weapon, extended a gnarled claw, its razor-sharp tip glinting menacingly.
With a thunderous roar, Mario charged forward, his sword poised to strike. The turtle responded with surprising agility, its massive shell deflecting the Baron's blow with a resounding clang. The forest echoed with the clash of steel and shell, as the two titans engaged in a battle of epic proportions.
Mario swung his sword with relentless fury, but his attacks were met with the turtle's unyielding defense. The turtle, in turn, countered with swift, calculated strikes, its claws leaving deep gouges in the Baron's armor.
As the battle raged on, neither combatant showed signs of yielding. Mario's strength and ferocity were matched by the turtle's wisdom and resilience. The forest became a battleground, the air thick with dust and the clash of steel.
Just when it seemed the battle would never end, a sudden transformation occurred. The turtle's shell began to glow with an intense light, its form shimmering and shifting. Before Mario's astonished eyes, the turtle morphed into a majestic being, its body radiating an aura of power and serenity.
The transformed turtle spoke in a voice that echoed with ancient wisdom, reminding Mario of the interconnectedness of all living beings, the delicate balance that must be maintained in the natural world. Mario, humbled by the turtle's words and the creature's otherworldly transformation, sheathed his sword, his heart filled with a newfound respect for the natural world.
From that day forward, Mario ruled with a gentler hand, his fearsome reputation replaced by one of wisdom and compassion. The tale of his battle with the wise turtle became a legend, a reminder of the power of nature and the importance of respecting all living beings.
and for making what is now the definitive shell hack for people to play and conquer

And yeah, I asked the same thing in your last video.
Edit: Well, it's been a week and I didn't get a response, so I'm gonna do it, ok? If you'd not want the video on youtube, just comment there and I'll remove the video.
My brain melts, like a turtle lying on its back in the hot sun... with a P-switch beside.
The salons are all a-talk of the new "shell hack". "Shell hack", a phrase that both encompasses the game perfectly yet evokes a visceral reaction vis-à-vis the various derangements bearing a "shell" tag: Nauseating, Obnoxious, Loathsome.
Shao brings the never-before-seens to Baron, delivering 22 levels of fresh ideas and fun gimmicks. Each level just so happens to involve shells, but this is secondary to the enthralling game play.
Sections are short, but tight and require muscle memory. But not too tight, just the right amount. Each challenge efforts reward proportionately.
For Whom the Shell Tolls?
You have answered Thee, referring to Me.
That is incorrect. The correct answer is Thee.
This hack has changed my perspective.
One of my favorite hacks hands down.
Amazing shell/item abuse type hack with a ton of creative setups and great aesthetics and music.
What I liked: All of the sections are on the shorter side which makes learning the more difficult sections feel less tedious. The setups all felt really intuitive and fun to pull off. With the exception of a couple single setups nothing felt super tight.
What I didn't like:
Other than that level I don't really have any other big issues with the hack. Some setups were quite a bit harder than others but nothing else felt unbearable
Favorite levels:
Backwater Keep 1st half- Man, this section is so fun to pull off
Spatial Mismatch - Had no clue this level would be so fun. Absolutely love it
Will update my review if I ever get past Pit of Abaddon
excelent work shao! 100/10
