Description: Aeron's Golden Cookie Quest is an old-school styled hack, that has inpiration in various videogames, including Kirby, Mega Man, Castlevania, Ganbare Goemon, Shinobi, Mario and others. Instead of inspiring myself in any hack creator, I wanted to make this project as a love letter for videogames and I plan to achieve that with this hack.

It's a weird hybrid of traditional and chocolate. While this hack has a lot of ASM, its level design is more focused all in tackling obstacles than innovative level design. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything, just to be clear, so don't go with the wrong expectations, when playing this hack. Much like an old game, it has some bullshit moments, but a lot of good and rewarding gameplay.

This hack has lore, but it's not too wordy or too wacky. It's very easy to understand. You only watch the cutscenes once and go back to the action even if you die once, due to my clever vanilla checkpoints placement. Slightly inspired by The Second Reality Project 2 Reloaded and Luigi's Misadventures.

What this hack contains:
- A custom player sprite, drawn by Deeke.
- Various patches aimed for quality of life experience, to make the platforming even more fun;
- 10 tough levels;
- Save areas, this game doesn't save automatically;
- Neat selection of custom musics;
- Tough platforming;
- A few "gotcha" moments, inspired by SMW: Gaiden;
- Simple and challenging bosses;
- Bumpties (Segment1Zone2 angry noises);
- Hot Dino Rhinos;
- Cutscenes;
- NPCs;
- A new checkpoint system;
- A slightly suggestive final boss;

Updated to 2.5.2.1 to fix the softlock mentioned by rafaelfutbal. Aside from that, I finally removed the p-switch music from the game, which for some reason, I forgot in the previous update. Other changes were minor and to fix graphic inconsistencies between credits, cutscenes and in-game sprites. Credits were updated in the Inspirations and shout-out parts. And finally, to avoid cheese, once you get in a trap room in Mutsu Mountainroad, you can't escape it by dying. And, with that said, hopefully, this is the last update for my hack. It works fine with previous save files, so everyone can keep their save files just fine.

Just completed your Hack a second time and the same thing I said about the other version which I’m still going to keep by the way because I really love the Rulz Kard theme tune, this version of the Hack was also really amazing and fun to play I really love the new character for the Hack, I like the villagers of Setsuma Village including Ohana she has a really cute run when she’s running back and forth, really like Natsumi Aeron’s friend as well because she’s quite pretty especially in the Mechanical Oedo level where she is dressed in stylish retro, she looked incredibly hot and stunning in that level and I really like the music to the level also. I really liked the theme tune for Shadow Man and the fight with him as well I can honestly say that just like the first time of facing him before you updated the Hack it wasn’t too stressful for me but my favourite boss would have to be the Ghost Woman despite that she is incredibly challenging especially the way her flying energy disks annoyingly go into you at times I really love that she also plays a special part in this amazing SMW Hack of yours and as weird as this will sound but I really love how cute and good looking she is with her evil look in other words I just really love her in general. #tb{''} #smw{-_-2} Same as the other version I really love the backgrounds, graphics and the amazing designs and edits. You’ve got a really amazing thing going with this Hack, keep up the amazing work. Hopefully there will be another sequel to this Hack. Really hope to see more from you in the further future. Amazing work on the Hack by far the best one I have ever played, keep going. #smw{:TUP:}#tb{:]}#ab{:)}

Where did you get the smb3 munchers from? They don't seem to be in the graphics section anymore
 Anorakun Author From older version: Aeron's Golden Cookie Quest Link
I ripped them myself. The thing about SMB3 exanimations is that the Graphics Section is a bit messy, they can be found in the SMB3 Cave tileset, which is ripped in a questionable way.

You can open my rom and extract them from there, since the Exanimation is optimized. I personally don't mind.

Can you make a version with the mario sprite please i love to play as mario #smw{T_T}
 Anorakun Author From older version: Aeron's Golden Cookie Quest Link
That's not happening. What you are asking me is basically to rewrite the lore of the hack to fit this specific character you want.

You're basically saying "I would play this hack if it had Mario" and to me, that's a disrespect to all the trouble I went to have my new character in a hack. That defeats the whole purpose of my project.

I'm honestly tired of people being so biased just because a hack doesn't have Mario as the player character. With tons of hacks with Mario to choose, why are you bothering MINE about a player character? #smrpg{roar}

This is THE FINAL UPDATE, for real. After gathering more feedback, I did some slight rework in Mechanical Oedo, so it would be more fun and less infuriating,also, I have made the Mutsu Mountainroad's first half slight easier in a certain section. Applied the Better Bob-Omb Explosion patch, which removes the jankiness of bob-omb explosions and gives a more fancy explosion effect. Aside from that,there's still four easter eggs, new NPC dialogues at the end of Nocturnal Glacier and Kyushu Bridge to add more lore. Level design adjustments. An entire rework in the second half of Nocturnal Glacier, so it looks gorgeous as the rest of the hack. And a lot of quality of life changes. And that's it. I won't be updating this hack anymore. I just did because I noticed some inconsistencies in my level design and I fixed them already.

UPDATE: As turns out, I had to fix a few more things, oops! Please download the current version. Thanks. #smrpg{:3}

By the way what game exactly is the Ghost Lady from or is she a made up character because I really liked facing off against her. #tb{:D}#tb{:]}.

this hack lives up to its difficulty rating. got like halfway through level one before breaking and using savestates. not bad, just wish it at least had some sort of curve, because i literally game over'd on the title level. if i were rating this for me, i would give it a 3.5, though im sure other, more experienced people would like this hack.

Very hard enough to broke my fingers. But, nice hack!
Nao From older version: Aeron's Golden Cookie Quest Link
This hack is incredibly hard, probably one of the hardest on the website. All levels are marathon-length with tough setups throughout and few checkpoints, therefore I only recommend this for very experienced SMW players.

I love the presentation of the hack, graphics and music are just wonderful throughout. It's great how every level has a unique theme, and everything revolves around it including enemy graphics.

Levels are so-so. Almost all of them are slow paced, with a lot of tough jumps through spikes or requiring item management (for example bringing shells along to pass the next obstacle). Often times this works great, like in stage 1, but other times it can feel frustrating having to redo these kind of obstacles over and over due to the length of segments without checkpoints. In particular, the required item management can get frustrating when you accidently destroy a shell or a goomba that is needed to pass the next obstacle.

The bosses are the weakest point of the hack in my opinion, mostly because they are very hard (some of them feel spammy with enemies as well) and don't have a checkpoint before them. I found myself savestating through most boss fights for this reason.

Overall I would recommend this hack since it is very unique and has more positives than negatives, but you ARE gonna suffer and potentially get frustrated when playing it, so be prepared for that.

This is a great hack with some very creative setups, very interesting visuals and a great choice of songs.

Really great and polished hack with really challenging levels, looking forward for the final release.

I'll try to beat it.
Just spent 10 minits in the first level and it's still not beaten because I play like potato.
It's hard but in the good kind of way.
I've been following this on discord for a while and I admire your works because you seem to enjoy yourself a lot, a bit like a mad scientist #smrpg{<3}

Really enjoying this one. It's NES hard, but, in a good way. Really looking forward to seeing some more.

This demo (which has more content than some full hack releases) was an absolute blast - a shit-kicker for sure, but a real good time. It really hits those old school Nintendo Hard notes that it was going for.

Also, frick bumpties.

Whoever download the hack, please redownload again, I've fixed a fatal oversight in my map 16. Now Yamato Bamboo Field is working as I intended, sorry for not noticing that. #smrpg{ohno}
