Submission Details

Name: Super Mario Bros. 3 - Giant Koopas
Author: mikeyk
Added:
Version History: View
Tool: PIXI
Type: Standard
Dynamic: No
Disassembly: No
Includes GFX: Yes
Description: Those are giant Koopas from SMB 3 (Two of them are custom) that come from Sprite Tool, converted and ready to be inserted with PIXI.

(Rykon-V73) Small update: Added 4 .json files for every koopa available.

(Knight of Time/spooonsss) Updated again, this time it just needs one json to act like any of the four Koopa colors (see the asm file for details).

The color of the koopas isn't set correctly at all. instead of using 4 colors, it uses palette 8
Could you please be more specific about which extra bit/byte uses each color.
Also, How to make the parakoopa transform into a green koopa.

If you look at the asm file near the top, you'll see I left information on what to use to get each color Koopa. As for the giant Parakoopa, look for !SPRITE_TO_GEN = near the top of that asm file. The value there has to be the one you set for the giant Koopa.

Tested with: Lunar Magic 3.33, ZMZ 1.08, SA-1 1.40 and PIXI 1.40.

Accepted, but I must point that you could do a little more work in the json file in order to make all the possible koopa variants appear in the custom collections of sprites list. At least you correctly specified which extension byte values you should use in the .asm file.

Entering a pipe with a giant koopa sheel makes the graphics broken (i mean even if good gfx is loaded in the level, gfx tile is remapped at 86 instead of B0)

This is awesome!

I could imagine if the Yoshis got a giant shell in its mouth, the red shell would allow spitting a single traveling straight Big Fireball, the blue shell would allow flying by holding the B button even if you don't have a cape on and a yellow shell that can stomp and would destroy all ground enemies on the screen like a POW Block.

Okay. Understood.

You just added the json files, without changing anything else, so ok. Next time don't add yourself as author for such a simple change.

How do I make this use 64-high graphics? I want to make them look like the SMM large Koopas.

I had fixed a bug where the wings and sounds were missing if you had eaten a giant Koopa with a blue Yoshi.

Other then that, this is simply an updated version of the giant Koopa from Sprite Tool. Nothing really special about it.

By the way, there also exists a giant jumping parakoopa. Maybe you, the user, want to try this one out?

A suggestion is maybe give Yoshi a giant Fireball when spiting out of a Giant Red Koopa, Yellow could make the stomps go farther and Blue have longer flight time?

Yoshi can eat mega moles, so that's something.

I'm pretty sure that Yoshi can't eat a turtle this big.
