Fence Blocks v1.1

SMW Blocks → Fence Blocks v1.1

Submission Details

Name: Fence Blocks v1.1
Author: Donut
Added:
Version History: View
Act As: Various
Includes GFX: No
Description: A block that is only interactable when a sprite or the player is behind a climbing net; and an other that is interactable when player/sprite is in front.

Credit not needed, since these blocks are pretty simple..

v1.1 update:
- Made it so changing the act as is much simpler; done in list.txt, no longer requires editing the code.
- Reduced code redundancy.
- Fixed fireball interaction.

This is actually such a cool block. Easy to make a level around I reckon.

Added wall run support.

Simple yet effective. Do note that this doesn't work with custom blocks thanks to internal limitations (e.g. Dragon Coins are better handled using this block) and wall running behind a net will put you immediately in front of it but neither of these are problems with the block itself.

Couldn't you just make the code even yet simpler and use only one change acts like for each block? Also, fireballs require their own behind the foreground check.

I unstupidded the code. Thankie!

The "Act As" settings are a bit unintuitive for these; it's what the block acts like behind the fence for both blocks, while the in-front setting is set in the ASM, which makes them awkward to customise if you wanted them to act like something else on either side.

The blocks are simple and easy enough to edit if you know what you're looking at, but it might have been more useful to have the Act As be the "solid" state for both (or at least the in-front state, which doesn't have the risk of having Mario pop out from behind the net).

I finally stopped being lazy. The new update which I just submitted should fix this. :)

Cool block! Can definitely see it being useful for puzzles and such. Accepted.
