Directional hurt blocks v1.2

SMW Blocks → Directional hurt blocks v1.2

Submission Details

Name: Directional hurt blocks v1.2
Author: HammerBrother
Added:
Version History: View
Act As: Various
Includes GFX: Yes
Description: Unlike the hurt specific sides block, this block has a lot of improvements and features:

-the sides of the block does not hurt the player if the player is touching the side unless he moves towards or into the block (smw munchers and spikes (from castle and ghost houses) does this), by checking if mario's hitbox pixel is either overlapping (at least 1 pixel) it or adjacent to the block.

-various options like killing the player instantly regardless of powerup (or HP if using HP patch), killing sprites and more!

Update 1.2 (Anas): converted all the blocks to SA-1 and included slippery versions of the blocks for use with GHB's perfect slippery blocks!

Simple update if slightly weird because you can't cover all special cases.
One thing what is a bit of a pity. The slippery flag isn't just a binary on-off flag, no, it actually has three states: On, half and off. For user-friendliness, one should be able to pick the type of slipperiness instead of fighting through.

Beyond that (not the scope of the update), it would be nice if you could have a negative version (i.e. all sides hurt but one) and really, in an ideal world, you'd have a block where you can set up which side hurts you and which one doesn't through defines and not having the need to include multiple files.

About negative blocks, I never even thought of that-- excellent point. I just converted the blocks. As for the slippery versions, I had made these conversions over three years ago before GHB updated the blocks to be more user-friendly and I didn't wanna touch it at all. The 'hurt from all sides' versions was a last-minute thing before submission since I didn't need these blocks personally in my hack at the time.

For such an useful resource, it's kinda ironic it doesn't have a SA-1 conversion.

It appears that none of these blocks hurt you when you're standing on top of them (with or without yoshi, acts like set to 130).

hurt_from_right.asm is the top-and-bottom spike???
EDIT: It didn't happen again when I re-downloaded it. Weird.
