You can search SMW and YI hacks on SMWCentral's catalogue directly from within the tool. The tool will download, unzip, and patch them automatically.

This tool also offers a simple hack-management interface:
- List hacks present in one folder
- Run hack in the emulator
- Delete a hack

For the documentation and source code, you can check out the GitHub repository.

The version listed on this page is for Windows 10 or newer. You can find the download links for macOS and Windows 7 or older on the download page.

Changelog:
- [2024.09.07]: Allow to set custom emulator path and arguments; add global setting to set a custom cookie for searches and downloads; fix search by difficulty for SMW hacks; add more search options (moderation status, sorting, misc.: puzzle); added more columns in search results (rating, length, size, etc.); added a filter to search through downloaded hacks; a few new settings.

Having an issue with the software that appeared today. Trying to download a hack through the software has given me a "Failed to extract ZIP" error, regardless of which hack it is. This is a new problem, I'm not sure when it started but it worked the last time I used it.

Very helpful if you play ROM hacks on Emulator alot. I will definitely use this more often!

Does the manager only show the hacks that you've downloaded through it? I got this tool thinking it would read my hacks file and pull out all of the existing roms I have and display them in the software. While this program will be super useful for patching roms quickly, it doesn't seem as useful for managing the roms you already have.

The tool shows all SFC files inside subfolders within the folder you configured for your game, regardless of them having been downloaded through the tool or by other means. Note that for an SFC file to appear, the file must be in a subfolder, it can't be top level. Also, the tool only displays SFC files (not SMC) and it will not patch BPS files that are already there when configuring a game.

So, if you configure a new game on, let's say, folder "SMW", the tool should show all SFC files with this level of nesting "SMW/hack name/file name.sfc" that are already there.

Oh, that must be why it's not working for me. All of my hacks have the .smc extension, not .sfc.

A Game-Changer for ROM Hackers!
I recently stumbled upon this incredible new repository tool, and I have to say, it's a complete game-changer for anyone who enjoys ROM hacking. As someone who’s been deep into modifying ROMs for a while, I can’t emphasize enough how much time and frustration this tool saves!

What sets this tool apart is its seamless integration of multiple processes into one easy-to-use package. Here’s what I love about it:

1. Effortless ROM Hack Discovery: The repository tool makes finding ROM hacks a breeze. It has a well-organized interface and tons of available hacks ready to download, so you don’t have to scour the internet or worry about whether you're getting the right version.

2. Automatic Unzipping: No more dealing with the hassle of unzipping files manually! The tool handles everything, making it simple to get your files in order without any extra effort.

3. Instant Patch Application: This feature is a huge time-saver. Once you've chosen your ROM hack, the tool automatically applies the patch to the base ROM. It's so quick and smooth, you can get right to playing or testing the hack without any additional steps.

4. User-Friendly Interface: Even for beginners, the interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. You don’t need to be a ROM hacking expert to use it effectively. Everything is laid out clearly, and the process feels almost automated.

5. Save Time, Avoid Errors: I can't tell you how many times I’ve run into issues trying to locate the downloaded file, unzip it, and then locate the right base rom. This tool eliminates those headaches, ensuring everything is applied properly and consistently every time.

Overall, this tool is an absolute must-have for ROM hacking enthusiasts, whether you're a newbie or a seasoned pro. It’s fast, reliable, and makes the whole patching process effortless. Highly recommended!

LGTM, tested on Windows 11 (OS Build 22631.4391), works as expected.
Some nice feature additions that work as advertised, accepted.

The tool tries to open the SFC file with the default app set in the operating system. I think that in order to make it work with RetroArch I should let the user specify the emulator's path and command line args, which is not possible currently. Maybe I'll tend to that in the future.

found a plaster solution. for others who want a short-term workaround and don't mind downloading more software, you can use this piece to circumvent the problem. just put the core dll filename in the json file included and "always open" in windows with this executable.

This has been implemented by elegist and it's available on version 2.3.0 on GitHub.

One day I'll update the submission here on SMWCentral, but I want to make sure to include some more new features before bothering the moderator.

does anyone have an idea of how to use this tool w/ retroarch? it seems to not launch properly if .SFCs are set to launch via retroarch

I can't find any rules/site guidelines about the use of smwc's ajax.php for the search functionality and/or bypassing of smwcentral.net for downloads. Can any admins speak to the continued use of this tool?

It is fine. The tool uses our public API, which is designed for this kind of use.

Holy crap! Thank you so much for this! Now, I don't need to go through my 100+ messy SMW Romhack's folder! #smw{^_^;}

The fact that the .bps file doesn't show up probably means that the tool is failing to download the archive or unzip the downloaded archive. No .bps file means there is nothing to patch and no .sfc file is produced (only .sfc files are shown in the "hacks" section).

However, in case something goes wrong, an error message should appear below the "download" button. Does this happen with every hack you try to download, or just one?

When I press on download it creates the folder with the .bps file in it. But it doesn't patch it for some reason so It doesn't show up in the "hacks" section

EDIT: It works now. Seems like it was a problem with my SMW ROM.

Glad it works, and thanks for reporting. I should make sure to display some error message in case patching doesn't work.

When I download a hack, it does download it and creates a folder, but it doesn't show up in the "hacks" section and it's not patching the .bps file.

Very useful tool. Now I no longer have to search through the 4,000+ file mess that is my hacks folder #tb{XD}

This is awesome! It allows me to skip the annoying sifting through folders and patching part of starting a new hack!
