Please stay tuned for an update in the near future!
I decided that I will release a version with original SMW physics and adjusted levels to make the game more fair!
Here's a walkthrough for anyone who needs it! Excellent game; graphics are beautiful and music varied, doesnt feel like a rom hack more like an actual release.
However, I saw at around 2:06:29 the lightning causes the palette to glitch.
I thought this bug was fixed and I wasn't able to reproduce it anymore.
When this happens, reset the game to avoid further issues like the ones you had in the last castle for now.
It seems rare to get the issues though.
Forget this in an SMW-hack and what you know about SMW's physics.
The best way to go there I'd say is start from zero as to how the physics work - many of the obstacles here are only hard because we tend to try to deal with them with the strategies learned from SMW and it's physics. And well, these strategies will often fail here, but that doesn't mean there's no solution. It's a bit hard to explain, but playing around with the controller and how jumping and Toad's speed work is the way to go - and after a while dealing with the obstacles won't be as hard as it initially appears, but it sort of demands a bit from the player to take the time learning these new controls. If you're willing to do that, you can have a lot of fun with this.
This my walkthrought of this hack
Version: 1.0
Emulator: BizHawk (Core: BSNESv87)
I am really impressed by the ASM hacks implemented in this game: there's custom stuff everywhere, neat HDMA, scrolling and gameplay effects, while still being kept at a decent , not overloaded level. These are particularly outstanding for this hack. Also the graphics and music choices are great. The story, while being a little flat, which is fine for a jump'n'run, is implemented and progressing well.
Some flaws include the level design, which was present in the first prequel as well: most levels are built rather linear without much to do but jump through. A bit of variation, some more hidden pipes or places to check out would have been cool, also some secret exits were very easy to find. The placement of midways was kinda off, i.e. too early in some levels, and I also would have loved to get a checkpoint before a boss. Unfortunately I had to use savestates before the bosses, because playing through a long section over and over again until you finally figure out how to beat a boss and actually beat it, is just no fun. Furthermore, there really is no difficulty curve throughout this game. I felt early levels were just as hard as later levels, even though I got used to the physics a little later in the game. But let's just regard the last level before the last castle: it was a very easy level compared to a many others, while also being a very short level. The bosses, as well, differ greatly in challenge, i.e. some early bosses are way harder than later ones.
Ice Man fixed some bugs in version 1.2, which I had pointed out here:
Edit: I used Snes9x 1.5.5.0, though confirmed with 1.63
All in all, this hack is outstanding in many aspects and finally something worth playing. Danke und Gratulation, Ice Man.
THIS IS HUGE
Other than that, this is a beautiful hack with great resource usages. The levels are nice, but I really couldn't enjoy them with those player physics - they're rough to deal with and took away from my overall experience with the whole game.
