SMW Patches - QuickROM 1.3 Link - Show random
File Name: QuickROM 1.3
Added:
Authors: Alcaro
Tool: xkas
Requires Free Space: Yes
Bug Fix: Yes
Featured: No
Description: This patch optimizes a few routines in the ROM, making them faster than before.
To be more specific: Slowdown is decreased with sprite bouyancy enabled, Wigglers load faster, and game start, level load and OW load is slightly faster. I do not know if it's noticable.
It is compatible with all other known optimization patches, including FastROM and the graphics decompression optimizer. The savings will stack, meaning the combination of all of them is faster than any other combination.
No credit required; however, unlike 1.1, this one requires freespace.

This version fixes a race condition that freezes the game in FastROM mode, and makes Wigglers load a little faster.

I made a fix for the issues Vitor mentioned https://github.com/spooonsss/smw-quickrom/blob/master/quickrom.asm. Let me know if it doesn't work for you

This patch is not compatible with LM ExAnimation because QuickROM hijacks the ClearStack routine while LM does the same, generating a hijack conflict and corrupting the stack and AXY size.

The fix somehow broke a completly clean rom, which is why I believe I deleted it in the first place. (not really sure if that's how it happened, I don't really fond of trusting my memory.)

Of course, since I don't have it anymore I can't really prove what I'm saying, so...just be aware that the patch can crash the rom for no reason. Maybe it can't do it with the new LM, but I doubt it.

Also changing featured flag from Essential to No because this is definitely not an important patch.

I tried again, this time expanding the rom without inserting the fast-rom, the GFXs or Map 16s, applied the patch and disabled the ExAnimated palette for the exact same level and the rom still crashed.

I tried one last time using the exact previous steps, with the difference of inserting the patch with xkas and disabling the levels original animations and once again the game crashed.

That's what I did and somehow the patch managed to broke a clean SMW rom three times. I sent Alcaro a PM about this issue some time ago, but it seems he also gave upt trying to fix it.

wait really? what other patches are you talking about?

The version 1.3 is glitched. Under very specific circumstances it can break the rom whenever you have other patches inserted or not.
