There's a story it's based on but I don't generally care about spoopy pasta. It always reminds me of chain letters I used to get in like 1998. "You are now cursed! You must forward this hack to 20 people or you will be visited tonight at 12:00am, by Bloody Mario. This is no joke!" That's on me, though. Definitely take the time to read the story linked in the description of the hack.

I've been eating french fries to this hack for what feels like years. Quite the indispensable mario romhacking experience, comes highly recommended.

I remember listening to CreepsMcPasta read this story on youtube when I was 12. Long before i knew what a rom hack was. Scared the life out of me. Funny im here 8 years later..

This hack DID only get accepted because you could say it made history on the website. Of course, the image did confirm it's spot. Any other hacks like this would probably get rejected.. unless created by the original creator, M A R I O.

The palette was simply done using LM's palette editor. Mario's palette was changed to have the same colors but with darker shades. Luigi's palette was changed to be more or less completely black. (It seems as though very few people ever actually discovered the latter without me giving it away, though..)

The crash was done by filling the destination room (that you end up in when you pass through the pipe) with generators and miscellaneous random sprites. I doubt even the SA-1 patch could have allowed it to load.

This ROM hack didn't put in much effort to be made. I was able to almost fully replicate it within a couple of hours using nothing but Lunar Editor. The only two things I haven't figured out how to replicate yet are the dull palette of Mario's sprite and the crash at the end of the game (the latter of which I don't plan on replicating, but still).

I've heard of this ROM hack before, played it a couple of years ago. It was a... meh, pretty sketchy n' straightforward game for a Creepypasta but I never realized there's an ARG attached to it.

An overrated pile of junk that doesn't do anything to help make a scare to the player except put a corrupted jpeg in the zip folder that turns out to be a image of what seems to be a giant pepperoni face. If you find this scary, your perception of horror is low.
