Wario Land 5

Super Mario World Hacks → Wario Land 5

Submission Details

Name: Wario Land 5
Author: Dylan Yoshi
Added:
Demo: Yes
Hall of Fame: No
Length: 6 exit(s)
Type: Standard: Normal
Description: Wario has discovered a huge treasure hoard. Soon after its discovery, Captain Syrup swoops in and steals all of it. Wario, enraged, chases Syrup back to her castle, where he is captured and thrown intp Syrup's prison.

This hack is unique because EVERY level has two exits. The final version will contain multiple endings depending on which path you took. The hack is highly exploration and puzzle based. Each level has a hidden bonus room where you must collect five Yoshi coins.

Have fun and please be sure to tell me what you think.

The Prison had a puzzle which I liked because it was in a race format: if you're super fast, you can get the main exit, but if you're slower, you end up with the secret exit, but if you don't beat the prison guard at all and he blocks the door, you pretty much earned your death.

The other two levels are item babysitting hell: you use one item to hunt down another and another and another until you find an exit or a bonus room. It's designed in such a way you can't screw yourself over and finding a bonus room doesn't mean you have to backtrack forever just to get the items you need, but the levels are long. It's not fun to replay these two levels for the other exit.

The music is kind of lame, but given this hack is from 2008, I think that sums up a good percent of the ports that existed back then. It doesn't break though.

If you're one of those people who grew up hiding notes around the house cluing your sibling or best friend to the next note until finally they found "the treasure", this hack might be your cup of tea. Maybe. I was one of those people... but I also played enough item babysitting levels that this doesn't impress me.
